June 13, 200520 yr I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with Alpha 5 v.6. Alfa 5 makes some interesting claims on how it is better that Filmaker, but I wanted to know what anyone that may have uses Alfa 5 thinks.
June 13, 200520 yr Ron, Search around on the Forum here for a thread that goes back a couple years. Look for a post a fella named Marino Peterson. He apparently had a lot of knowledge about both products. I think his conclusion was that Alpha beat FileMaker hands down nearly everywhere in a technical sense but that since Alpha's market share it so small he felt it was foolish to to hitch-his-wagon to Alpha.
June 13, 200520 yr Ted, Can you point at the Thread. I just did a search for Mariano Peterson and +"Alpha" and got one hit that had nothing to do with Alpha I did find this URL Click Here and unless I'm missing something on their site, it still isn't xplatt. If it supports the Mac, it is vary curious how they do not state it, and that all review are PC orientated. If it is Window only, then it doesn't compare to FileMaker in at least ONE Important area. June 13, 200520 yr Lee, Sorry but I can't find it. I was going on memory from over a year back and it's very possible that I have things mixed up. It could be that the thread was on another board. It could also have been a discussion that was really about Servoy but included some talk about Alpha. I tried searching some of the other boards but I don't think they keep records going back more than a year or so. I came up dry. Mr. Peterson's posts were generally rich in details and his opinions echo mine in a lot of ways so I liked reading his writing. I haven't seen anything from him recently. He seems to have soured on FileMaker since v7 came out -- at least that is what his most recent posts indicate.
June 13, 200520 yr Hi Guys Alpha 6 ain't all that bad if you are strictly Pc and want to learn a new programming language. They use a new language called "Samari" it
June 14, 200520 yr Thanks for the Point. However, it isn't the one we were looking for. We were looking for one by Mariano Peterson, that Ted had remembered. Lee
June 14, 200520 yr Lee, I do seem to remember another thread on Alpha, but couldn't find it. As I recall, it was a rather long post.
