When trying to insert picture into a container field, I received an "error -43 occurred during initialization of Claris XTND System" msg. I've checked the technical q/a at filemaker.com but couldn't find any reference to this. Anyone have any suggestions for a possible solution?

I would re-install FM. Make sure it is a FULL install that includes all the resources. -bd

Have had similar error: "Error -2804 during initialization of Claris XTND System" trying to insert picture. This is happening on a workstation that FM5 Server is installed on but not active when this happens. Same w/you? And yes, re-installing FM fixes it. Just curious what might be causing it.

This is one of the little things that happens when you don't install off the program CD, but merely copy FMP from another machine.

Install off a program CD and this problem will disappear.

Reader Stan B. writes: "There is a known problem with the MacLinkPlus 12.0 installer deleting all translators (Claris & licensed DataViz) in the Claris folder on machines that have the Claris XTND system installed and deleting the MacLinkPlus for CW control panel used by AppleWorks 5. Many other applications still use the XTND system. I have been told by DataViz that the CD-ROM version of MacLinkPlus 12.001 fixes this bug."

DataViz replies: "Unfortunately the problem described is true. MacLinkPlus for a number of versions has no longer officially support XTND and the MacLinkPlus installer removes our MacLinkPlus Bridge file that links XTND to the MLP translator library. The version 12 installer changed the way it does this and incorrectly deletes all files in the System folder with the type and creator of 'Fltr'/'Clrs'. We will have a fix for this shortly in an upcoming MLP installer which we will make available to customers who contact us with this problem.

Note that AppleWorks 6 no longer uses XTND and is not affected by this issue. Workaround solutions include: Make a copy of the 'System Folder:Claris:Claris Translators:' folder on your desktop prior to installing MLP and then replace them if they have been deleted. Reinstall ClarisWorks 4 ,5 or AppleWorks 5 if our installer has already deleted these files."
