March 30, 200124 yr I have set up a script to update my records over an ethernet network from one file to another using the updating records portion of "import records". My problem is that is is intolerably slow. I am attempting to update approx. 2500 records and it progresses at a rate of only about 1 record every 2 seconds. Am I doing something wrong or is this par for the course. Thanks for any help, Mike
March 30, 200124 yr I'm a little confused about exactly what you are doing. Are you importing records? How many fields do the records have? What machines are involved? Are you using FM Server? What is your network speed? If you are importing records, this is not very fast, but could be normal depending upon the answers to the above questions. -bd
March 30, 200124 yr Author I am importing and updating records in fmp 5 from the import command. The records have quite a few fields, I'm guessing about 50. The machines are a PB G3 400 and a Powermac 4400/200. My network speed is 10mbs. I am not using FM Server. Thanks

I would not consider what you are experiencing to be out of the realm of reason. Way to speed up what you are doing: Run the file locally, and do not have any guests sharing them. Run them both locally in RAM Disk. Run them both on FMP Server. Do not actually "update" if you do not need to (i.e. simply import NEW records and deal with the older one seperately).
April 4, 200124 yr Author thanks for the help. I am beginning to realize that, as you said, the update feature is very slow. What would you recommend for finding only "new" records. thanks again
