What is the acceptable highest level of the record number with simple text fields? There is an absolute file size of 2GB. There is not really a record number limit. There are so many different factors that will limit the number of possible records. I am positive that I have never heard of anyone hitting any limit. Although you will see various usability issues as the size goes up. You need to make sure that you control the found set really well.
abkaplan Posted April 4, 2001 Author Posted April 4, 2001 Hi, thanks for your answer. That is why I asked that question: Here I have been preparing programs to control the student affair departments in highschools and universities. One of the universities asked me to prepare a program for them. Their student number is 30.000 . When they see that I will prepare the program on File Maker some of the others objected because of the capacity limits of the File Maker. As much as I know, I explained them as you told but to be sure I needed to get an answer supporting me from outside of the country. They prefer to develop their program on Oracle but it is a little bit too much difficult to find a person or fund for that.as they say themselves... is there any more specific information about the file maker-use componies in the world ? with their record numbers? ( Yes I know numbers are nothing to consider here but they consider only numbers...) Abkaplan
George Posted April 5, 2001 Posted April 5, 2001 For a list of companies that use FileMaker look at this thread: http://www.fmforums.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=26&t=001357
Newbies tomrt Posted April 10, 2001 Newbies Posted April 10, 2001 abkaplan, May 1999's FileMaker Advisor has a section related to your question (it's in the Ask Advisor column). It is stated that they know of a government agency with a 6 field database that has 3.3 million phone numbers in it. Three fields are indexed and it's "fairly snappy" when it runs. It is about a gigabyte in size when they last saw it. Hope this helps, tomrt
