disconnecting users??

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm pretty new with this software so bare with me. I have a client running FM5 and when he tries to leave the program it says there is 1 user connected the database I guess. Is there any way to disconnect this user or change a setting somewhere on either of these computers so that the user does not have to wait to close the FM program??

Thanx in advance

Kenny

Is the database he is using residing directly on his machine?

I might "bear" with you, but "bare" is a little too personal! wink.gif" border="0.

The only good way to fix this problem is to put FM on a third machine which is not a user machine. If you could kick a guest off when you are the host, you would have the capability to corrupt their data, something FM can't allow. The holy grail for database program is to preserve data integrity. The inability for the host to quit FM whenever they wish is the price you pay for using a peer-to-peer FM hosting arrangement. The other downside is that a crash on the host machine (say running Netscape, that never happens!) will take down all the guests.

Your options are 1) to let the other user host the databases, 2) setup another machine with a normal copy of FM as the host, or 3) setup another machine with FM Server as the host.

Ya sorry 'bout that LiveOak. Coffee was late this morning and my synonyms and my spelling are a little jibbled at the moment. No offense with the bear bare thing. What the hell was I thinking!!!

Ok so I get ya. Its all based on the data integrity thing. Now is it becuz that he (computer 1) is the host and since (computer 2) is still using the database, computer 1 can't close the program. That's kinda mental.

See what that coffee will do for you? Obscure solutions become clear, and all is right with the world.

I personally don't drink coffee (hate the taste, and even the smell), and don't recommend it, even though it seems to work for you.
