FileMaker Pro fails to launch

On a Mac OS 9.2, double clicking on any filemaker data file results in the message:

"FileMaker Pro could not be launched because of incorrect installation, missing system components or insufficient memory. Please see FileMaker Pro documentation."

I have over 500Megs of memory, and if I launch FileMaker Pro 5.5 and then open the data file, it opens correctly.

I have had a previous FileMaker Pro version (4.1) on the system. I removed it without solving the problem. I have looked at the File Exchange control pannel and included references to FMP5 and correctly pointed the FMP3 file type to FileMaker Pro 5, without solving the problem.

Any experience with this problem?

I had the same problem with 9.1 but could not figure it out...

Just purchased a new computer and the same problem came up. Here is what I found. I had installe the trial version on FMP 5.5 on OS X and it started. When I was clicking on a FMP 5 file, I would get the same message. I looked in the "System tongue.gif" border="0 references Folder" and I found that FMP 5.0v3 was creating a FMP 5.5 preferences files.

So I trashed the FMP 5.5 for OS X, deleted that FMP 5.5 "preferences" file and everything came back to normal.
