geod Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Well they support Windows XP which is really old, but they do not support MacOS 10.4. Could be a bummer for a lot of folks. I was looking forward to upgrading until I saw the system requirements for Mac. :)
Vaughan Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 That's because the corporate world has refused to migrate to Vista: even Microsoft has been forced to continue to support XP.
Newbies enzobro Posted March 10, 2010 Newbies Posted March 10, 2010 Do you think a new Mac Mini will be enough to power FMS 11 Advanced? will the 4GB of ram be enough?
iMarcW Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 (edited) It depends on how much it will be used, but for a small-to-medium sized workgroup, it should work fine. The hard disk probably has as much or more to do with performance than RAM or CPU-- the Mini has a 5400 rpm laptop-sized drive, so you should get an external drive to use as your boot drive. Connect it via either FireWire 800 (which is built in) or eSATA (which can be added to the Mini if you want to tinker: just google for "add esata to mac mini"). Then you can use Carbon Copy Cloner to backup everything *except* your live database folder to the Mini's internal drive, and if the external HD ever fails, you can boot from it instantly, copy your most recent backup to the live database folder, and you're back in business. (Another advantage of the Mini is that a UPS backup power unit that would power a traditional server for 10 minutes or less, in the event of a power outage, would probably run a Mini for hours, due to the extremely low power consumption.)
