Dear Filemaker Folks,

I am using FMS Adv13 with FMP Advanced 13. Is anyone tried about web direct? If so, please let me know the...

1.Pros and Cons?

2.Any Technical drawbacks?

Thanks

Ulaga

Pros

Webdirect is very easy to setup and closely resembles the look and function of your layouts.  Its a big improvement over the older IWP technology.  Filemaker has a nice feature comparison to the old IWP.  Many of the newer features (like script triggers, and popovers) work well with WebDirect so its pretty cool.

Cons

One thing that is missing in Web Direct is the ability to view your layouts with a Table View.  Instead you will need to design List layouts.  However, lists look and behave much more like the FMP client... in the old IWP list views were terrible.

Some script steps don't work.   Open a script and choose, "Show Compatibility...Filemaker WebDirect" to see which ones are not supported (e.g. spell checking and opening files).

Also check out the FMI website for the recommended server specs for use with WebDirect.  They are not trivial.
