bthoma Posted December 19, 2001 Posted December 19, 2001 Installed Filemaker Pro 5.5 on my Mac G4. Now I cannot open a file by double clicking as I did in 5.0 - but must drag the file into the Filemaker Pro Icon to open it or open the Filemaker program first. What am I doing wrong? Sorry to be such a beginner. bthoma
bthoma Posted December 19, 2001 Author Posted December 19, 2001 I've searched for the post "Filemaker Pro Fails to Launch by Notr (post#3)" I can't find it. Again I apologize for being such a beginner. Help! Rebuilding the desktop did not help.

bthoma Posted December 20, 2001 Author Posted December 20, 2001 Tried rebuilding the desktop with extensions off. Didn't change anything. I continue to get the message box, " Filemaker Pro could not be launched because of incorrect installation, missing system components or insufficient memory. Please see the Filemaker Pro documentation." I have reinstalled - no change. I increased memory from the suggested 10240 to 15000 - no change. I have virtual memory on. This Filemaker Pro 5.5 is one of 10 licensed we purchased. We have it installed on 2 Mac G4 machines that are networked together. They both are running OS 9.2 and both machines are acting the same - having to drag a file to open it, rather than double click it. Once the file is open all seems to work fine. I have the same problem even when the other Mac is not on. (It is a laptop and my husband takes it to work with him during the day)
Vaughan Posted December 21, 2001 Posted December 21, 2001 What version MacOS is it? Check the hard disk for errors with Disk First Aid.
bthoma Posted December 21, 2001 Author Posted December 21, 2001 I am running OS 9.2.1 I started up from the CD and ran disk first aid. No errors found - got the message "the disk appears to be Okay."
Vaughan Posted December 21, 2001 Posted December 21, 2001 Do you still have FMP 5.0 installed on the hard disk as well as 5.5?
bthoma Posted December 22, 2001 Author Posted December 22, 2001 I have only had this G4 machine for a few weeks. It did not have Filemaker 5 on it - 5 was on my G3. I installed 5.5 to to my G4 in the applications (Mac OS 9) folder and also installed 5.5 to the applications folder for use with OS 10. I have not used 10 other than to do that installation - as my husband had some problems with it - and I am happy with 9.2.
