If scripts via the web are bad because Filemaker is single-threaded, are scripts with 5.5 okay because it's multi-threaded? And what about global fields? Does everybody get their own?

I use Lasso as middleware, but run direct CDML commands on occasion to remotely close/open my databases. hello, I have done the simple creations using CDML and the custom web publishing and have done successfully. Now I would want to know what is the best method to do this more complicated; Users go to web site and enter the registration information. The "submit" button then check the database to see if they have done the registration before. If not then create the record in database. If so then the notification that it exists. Users are added to a database and through some CDML magic (just the [FMP-Record] tag) their records appear as MailBcc tags in a format file's form, so that a submitted message makes a -New record in a database and all subscribers get an announcement e-mailed message. I've had the FileMaker Sharing Option set to "Multi-user" and everything is working just fine. But I'm wondering, can I set it to "Single user"? I've got several pages that have about 30 [FMP-Include] statements each, which causes the database to perform about 30 "find" requests before returning the results page. Hi all, I'm experiencing a problem with the FM unlimited web connector, and I'd appreciate any help! We're using FM Unlimited 5.5, which is opening databases hosted by FM Server 5 (both on NT). We also have a Linux machine with Apache, with the web connector installed. hi all. i'm trying to setup this simple database. i load the program on my mac, go to my pc, type in the mac ip address and fmp locks up on the mac and on the pc it just keeps searching, no messages. i force quit fmp and then try to restart and get an error message that it can't start i should save the work and restart computer which then allows me to start the fmp. i've setup several db's before without trouble but now seems to have trouble. this is straitforward basic cdml to open html home page. have triple checked all settings and they are correct, sharing, ip address, home page selected, etc. port is set at 80. if i change to 591 i get message on pc can't be …

I have FMP Unlimited on a user's computer. Web companion is enabled. When the user transfers from Netscape to FMP and back again the Computer freezes. Anyone got any answers. We have allocated lots of memory to FMP still with no avail. Jo Ann

It is perfectly logical procedure to display list of records and portals within each record. Problem is, when the portal is to long and increases dramatically size of page and it is slowing down performance of WebCompanion.

I am working on a charity event where there will be 20 mac lined up to allocate seats to the ticket holders. So in the browser I need to do a find on the ticket number that will find the table and then I want to click the table number to find all tickets under that number. I have a database that has a field called links. It holds various links from anywhere. I am able to hide the long url's filemaker creates with the frameset but when I click on a link it will of course still show my url but display a page like CNN. How do I break out of the frameset to show a page outside my website but stay within the same browser window? Thank you Kent

I'm trying to set up a calendar which lists dates that take place within a month. The calendar will list the event day (In Two Seperate Fields 'Event_Month' and 'Event_Day'). Hey All, I am trying to set us a search form that will allow a user to search a database by their email address (the idea is to allow them to remove themselves from a list). The problem is that the "@" symbol seems to get encoded and therefore FMPro returns a "no records found" error. Does anyone know how to solve this? Thanks.

Hello, We have a filemaker pro 5.5 db with 4000 records. We have to publish this to the web. Related to the records we have an ms word document.(each record = one word file) The Problem. We want to know how we can link the word documents to our record though an internet browser (iexplorer). I have a button in my database that performs the "Sort" script. Now when viewing the database in a web browser and the sort button is clicked a new web page comes up with the sort options. This page is formated WAY WRONG. it comes in the correct way for a second, then re-draws. The buttons all enlarge, items overlap each other, ect. Whats up with this? It seems to be OS independent. Anyone else run into this? Can this default sort page generated by Filemaker when using Instant Web Publishing be fixed or re-formatted in any way? LR

On my custom default.htm page I have built I would like to add a link that will go directly to a layout in my filemaker database without having to run through another .htm page. In a way, this link would work almost in the same way as if I was using instant web publishing. I'd like to develop databases for clients up to, but not past the point where a CDML guru could put the database on the web. How far should we go? I want to strike a balance between the cost savings and control of doing it in-house without wasting time. If the clients were using Filemaker only, we could design the whole thing with lots of goodies but obviously, much of that is wasted when porting to the 'net. Hi All, I have a form with one text field whose value is set to the corresponding field in my database. I want to give the user the opportunity to change the content of this field. This form has two submit button, one with -Edit and one with -Delete. I noticed recently that, when the focus is in the text field, if you use the "Enter" key instead of clicking on one of the button, you get the error format file... Is there a way to avoid this ? Either deactivating the "Enter" key effect or associate it with my -Edit submit button would do. Thanks

Upon installation of web connector 5.5 on a FMP 5.5 unlimited edition and lasso 5.0 went to http://localhost/fmpro?config to configure the administrator account, like as the documentation says. And a login box pops up. What is the default login if there is one? There was no preset passwords or user login and have tried all the ones that are used in lasso and FMP. This is Queer.. I have Filemaker 5 unlimited and Lasso 5. I am having a hard time setting up a Raic that Lasso sees. Since i am using Os X server 10.13 I decided to use a friends web connector for filemaker 5.5. This seems to work well with Os X server. Here are my questions. 1. Once I set up Raic via terminal can I close the window or do I have to leave it open? 2. By using web connector 5.5 will this cause a problem? 3. Is Lasso 5 compat. with this setup?

Greetings, I am having to move my FMpro 5 unlimmited (and databases) over to a windows server running IIS. At the moment I have FM running web-companion which works with the CDML fine. The new server is multi-homed and I will be given a new IP for the CDML site. Can I run FM Pro 5 Unlimmited alongside IIS, or will there be issues about web-companion interfering with IIS? Hello everyone, I am working on a real-time sign-in system and have a series of checkboxes in CDML/HTML that work and calculate as they should on the website...except that it doesn't check the boxes in the FM database so there is no way to validate to the web user that the box is checked for future changes in FM as they are all blank. That I find really really weird. Does anyone have any ideas how I could get the boxes in FM to be checked or unchecked??

I built some pages including a search page using Homepage 3.0 to generate the CDML tags. All works fine execpt when I try to search for a date range. I only get the first date in the range. I seperated each date with ... and then I tried .. but no luck. I have a similar problem when seaching for names in a pop-up. There are two Daves with different last names. Hi again, This may be a very simple quesiton, but I can't figure it out. Is it possible to after finding a set of records and then updating a record in that set to return to the found set of records? For example, you have a found set of 100 records, and you are currently browsing records 50 -75. You then select a record to get more detail using the Record link, then update that record. Is it then possible to return to the original found set of records and specifically records 50-75? If so, how? Thanks.

Hi, Is it possible to use the Instant Web Pub with FileMaker on a RAIC? I think I'd like to setup a RAIC. We have a database to use internally and through the web. Question- would it speed up web requests and keep the internal version fast if one computer were the 'main host' for internal users, and another computer were dedicated to web page serving? Hi! I am using an FMP-Include to incorporate a dropdown menu on a number of CDML pages. While the menu contained ordinary HTML/javascript it ran fine. However, having added an FMP-InlineAction the thing doesn't work. I need to be able to interact with a dd/mm/yyyy formatted field in filemaker and apparently, cdml doesn't support that type of format with the [FMP-CurrentDate] tag. I have a search where all the results must be from the current date-forward. I have no idea how to pass the date in the format I need to filemaker in order to accomplish this. Format File Not Found I continue to get this error on a survey form i'm trying to publish online after I hit the submit button. I know the file is there because I can go to the "ip address/thanks.htm" and get right to it. I used this same reply htm file with another database and it works fine. I need a 2nd pair of eyes to look at this please. In my mail.txt file I'm asking it to print the First and Last name in the e-mail. It was working and then stopped. When a person submits a form it sends an e-mail to them based on their e-mail address. Does anyone know why it would be sending 2 e-mails to the same person? I currently use Claris Homepage to create the CDML needed for hosting our databases on the web. I know that this is no longer supported and although everything is working well and the sollution is not difficult to use, I am looking for a replacement. I am not sure if Lasso is that replacement. I would like to know how difficult it is to use Lasso to generate the CDML that Claris does. If so, which of Lasso's many products is the right sollution. I am looking for ease of use. Does anyone out there know if there is a limit to how many lines that there can be on a results page? Scenario: You enter the search page, put in an exact match search. The results page comes back and lists all the matches. Most of the time this works just fine. I have one search that doesn't. The one that doesn'ts is where there are 36 records that match the exact search. The web results page only displays the first 24 records. How do I get it to display the other 12? Is there a limit to how many lines the results page will show? Thanks in advance for your help. Donna

I have a pulldown with values assigned to names. When they are selected and entered in the field in the database it has an extra blank space under the value. I can manually go in and delete these but prefer not to. When I display the value on a webpage it displays it with a space at the end which is not good if you are trying display a period at the end. I have done a find and listed out all the database A records and now want to list database B records based on if eventID (A) is matching eventID (: Right now it is listing all the records from database B. Hi, I have a list of records which are generated from a search page. I have five columns on the result page: Student Name, Center of Instruction, Date of graduation, Total points, Average Points The records are sorted by Student Name, but I would like to allow the users to sort also by the other column headings, that is, I would like the user to be able to click on the heading to sort by that category. Is this possible with CDML?

I have a related database with a total of four fp5 files. The database should be accessible over the web and also through the network.. only thing is that whenever I set the sharing in the fp5 files to "Multi-user" FileMaker Pro 5 crashes when I re-open the files. If I go back to "single-user" it works fine... The network admin and I still haven't figured out which port to use.. he opened port 591 but FMP still tells us to use a different port... could this be the reason why FMP crashes when using "Multi-user" sharing? Could there be other things causing this - or should I maybe re-install FMP - could that make a difference?! Also - I'm not able to view the def…

'-edit' edits only one record at a time. You will also need the '[FMP-CurrentRecID]' for each record so that you can edit them. I use Javascript for this sort of thing. I usually have a 'button' next to each record and when this button is clicked that record is updated in the database. Another way is by using a self-join in the database so that the found set is a 'portal'. A multiple edit effect can be achieved with a portal. Hope this leads you in a productive direction. Garry

I am comletely new to Web Companion and CDML. Just started up reading on it, and I see that some people advocate XML rather than traditional CDML. I'd like to hear your opinions about it. I have a link on my index page that leads to a list of upcoming events. The events are displayed in a page that uses inline frames. Apparently Filemaker doesn't "serve" the content of the frames (in the sense that something like [FMP-CurrentDate] would load on the parent frame, but not on one of the two iframes). My solution was to use a redirect on one of the two iframes. The problem: I want that frame to automatically load a list of upcoming events. To do that I'm using FMP-CurrentDate. This may be a redundant post, but thought it might be helpful. I needed an FMP results page that only shows events that are current (happening today or in the future). After spending some time going through earlier posts on the subject, here's what I found: A calculation field is no good because the calculation is done when you create the record (our database stays open all the time, so it doesn't get recalculated). The simplest solution is to use the [FMP-CurrentDate] field in the first page (the search or link page), and then compare the date field in your database to [FMP-CurrentDate]. I've created a related database with a total of four fp5 files. I have the Web Companion on and then I get the following error when I restart FMP5: "Filemaker cannot host a file because of a network error. Files marked as multiuser will not be available over the network. (10048)" I want to set the files to multiuser in order for it to be accesible for other users through the internet - or isn't that necessary?! Saw the earlier posts from people trying to essentially create a subsummary report on a web page via CDML. I found them to be helpful (I'm totally new to this stuff and don't know much CDML yet -- or Filemaker for that matter), but a bit convoluted. Here's what I came up with that seems easier, and has the added bonus of not screwing up if you delete a record (an earlier suggestion used CurrentRecordNumber which can get a bit screwy). Hi: I have no idea on expressing SQL's "group by" and "distinct" in CDML. I have only one database named "Patient.fp5", in this file, there is one field named "Doctor Name". Now I want to use a link to get a list of distinct "Doctor Name". Then in this result page, I wish to use a link on each doctor to access a group of patients which belongs to this doctor. I am using a token to build part of a find request. The token value is a field in my DB. The problem is that the field may have more than one word in it, when it does the words in the field are split into different find requests. I have tried using RAW & URL encoding with no luck. Any ideas?

I am working on a personal ad site, using CDML (I may convert to Lasso later). In order to allow users to upload their photographs, I need to use WebStar's File upload plug-in. I have used applescript to create a folder for that user, and place the necessary files in that folder for Webstar's fileupload plug-in to work., and then create a link that will take that user to their own upload.html file in their own folder. This all works fine, except I need to take the user back to his/her ad page after the file is uploaded. I can't do this because I can't pass cdml tags to the upload page, since it's served by webstar instead of filemaker. How can I make w…

Hi All-Can anyone help me please? I am trying to get my head around how to use the [FMP-link] function. What I want to do is perform a search and then get a list of results from that search which is fine, I can do that bit. I then want to be able to store that results page into a token as an [FMP-link] so that I can carry it around as a token and go back to the results at anytime. I'm creating a database in File Maker Pro 5 that will be used for a web site. I have never done a database in FM before (only worked a little with Access), so I hope someone here can help me out a little. I've come as far as creating the database files (one master file and 3 related files). I have a database that tracks personnell schedule changes. The user first enters a date to see what changes are already in effect for the day. The found list has a NEW button at the bottom to add a new record. The server returns a New Record page with the found list at the top. After the person enters the new record I would like the server to return a found list for the same date with the new record included. Is this possible with CDML?

I have a link containing -max=all, but when the records come back the [FMP-rangesize] tag shows 196 records, but although it is showing 196 records I can only see text for the first 133. It's really strange, I can tell the other records are there, but its like it won't completly write them. I have other similar links, and they are working fine. Any thoughts? Thanks, Dave

I need to be able to filter a portal so that it doesn't display the same information twice from a single field in a list of records being displayed. I have a portal that lists cities. If the city name has already appeared, then I don't want to display it twice. I tried using an [FMP-if] statement, but I couldn't make it work... Any ideas? Thanks, Tony

I am serving a searchable DB using FMP 5.0v3 Unlimited on Win2k server. Once in a while, when trying to access the web page using IE or Netscape, I get the following message : "The page could not be displayed because the database "MyDBName.fp5" is not open" When in fact it is open. To make the web page available again, I have to restart FMP. Any idea on how to avoid this ? what is causing it ? Anyone having the same problem ? Thanks

I've read all the existing posts on finding and have checked out the FM help site too but still no joy .... So could someone help me please: I want to be able to do a find in CDML to achieve the following: (fieldA = X and fieldB = Y) or (fieldC = X and fieldB = Y) Needless to say the real world problem has 6+ fields to search through but the principle must be the same. I had originally planned to post some useful code which directly answers the currentdate matter raised by Turansky. I have spent the past half-hour getting rejects to this posting because of code problems around a parenthesis and html (or perhaps several parentheses). I have no idea what the problem is. I have tried to contact [email protected] from the link at the bottom of this page, but that address was rejected by Netscape. So I guess research is good for the soul, and I will be doing some research to see if I can figure out how to post code which should be of benefit to many people.

I have three input fields I assign tokens to. Two of them I make required and the last one is optional. If I put a value into the last field it carries it along and everything works hunky dory. But if I leave the value empty and am trying to carry an empty field in a token I get an error that reads "Command is invalid" <input name="-Token.9" value="" size=30> This field is used for people who have an e-mail. Is value list redirection with CDML possible?? I have a dynamic calendar in FM 5.5 that I'm trying to translate to the web so when I choose the month and year it will trigger a redirection to the same page with the calendar on it already. This is my code: <select name ="month"> [FMP-Option: month, list=Month] </select> <select name ="year"> [FMP-Option: year, list=year] </select> But everything I've seen so far in the HTML guides states that the redirection happens in the <option> tag which is in CDML as seen above.
