Database created on 5.5 Developer, opened fine on both platforms. Did lots of programming, mostly calculation fields, but nothing I considered too trick!

Now, on Windows 98, using FM 5.5 and 5.0, it quits the program with this error:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

Filemaker Pro caused an invalid page fault in module KERNAL32.DLL at 017f:bff87ede.

Registers: EAX=c003090d0 CS=017f ... etc. If anyone can use it, I will type all the registers!

I spent hours at my customer (I only have Macs) troubleshooting; removing page setup commands in scripts, simplifying calculations, removing suspect code, all to no avail. None of the PC's will open the file!

I'm baffeled, and I don't really know what to do next.Obviously this solution needs to be deployed cross platform, and it worked on an earlier version. I had done a ton of work on it, and tried to eliminate stuff to see where it broke, but to no avail.

I'm hoping some of you experienced gurus may have run across this and solved it in the past, or that some thought may become the missing key! HELP!!!

Hi:

The illegal operation usually indicates a memory problem. Was it kernel32 or kernal32? I beleive that FM is trying to reference a memory space occupied by system files. Have you tried it on other Win98 machines and get the same error? Does that machine come up with illegal operations with other programs (my guess is that it will)? Try reinstalling FM and if worse comes to worse you might need to reinstall the OS.

Thanks for the replys.

I tried it on 4 different PC's, 3 on Win 98.4.1.2222a and 1 on Win 2000.

The main machine I was testing has 128Mb Ram, and 18 Gig available on its hard drive. It's a Dell Dimension with a Pentium 2 processor, don't know the speed.

Each PC would run the old file, but none would run the new one. All macs, even the old PPC 6500 would run it fine. I changed all fonts to Ariel, removed page setup comand in opening script. It would not even open without the script!

More ideas??

Might be corruption. Try using the Recover command and save a compressed copy.

You might have to restore from a backup.
