Someone here at work has created a filmaker pro database. (FMP 6)

I want to give other access to that database.

Can multiple users access/read/write to the same database at the same time??

Can this be done without FM Server??

this is a Mac network

Hi:

Yes, this can be done without server. But each PC that wants to connect to the file must have FileMaker, and must connect to the file using the Hosts button in the Open dialog.

I still cannot see the database through this method. Again this is on MAC (osx and os9)

I have shared the database, I have tried to connect through the open remote dialog, but I do not see the file to conect to. Tried this through local host and through IP address.

Do I have to connect to the users computer first? (ie appletalk)

This might be silly, but make sure the database is not only set to Multi-User (and not Multi-User [Hidden]) but also that the database is open on the host machine before viewing it from other terminals. Also, check Edit->Preferences->Application for the correct network protocol.

It must be open for anyone else to log on, if you are keeping the database locally and want a specific host. If it is available on a networked drive, then whoever opens it first becomes the host. If the file isn't open, how do you expect others to be able to see it anyway? smile.gif

HI,

This might not apply at all, but I am upgrading from FileMaker3 to Filemaker6. I am trying to setup the web companion to let the other stations around the office view/edit my databases. I am running into a few bumps getting it setup, but It seems to be the way to go. It also may be a way to help you avoid purchasing multiple copies of Filemaker for every machine if you haven't already done so.
