April 4, 200124 yr I have installed FMPro 5 on W2000 and it does not run. An hour glass comes up and program appears to be starting but then nothing. In Task Manager program is running as a process. In Safe Mode program will run. Anyone know of any possible issues. I have tried with LAN card disabled and with basic VGA monitor driver as both these have been suggested as possible problems. Thanks for any help
April 4, 200124 yr This is exactly the same problem I had. I tried several things and finally gave up and wanted to reinstall the whole thing. Luckily the backup disk had a function called REPAIR. I run the repair function and did not loose any of my information on the HD - WORKED fine for me. I believe now, that there is a conflict with W2000 when other software packages are installed after FM (I have not figured out which one). Regards.
April 4, 200124 yr I had no problems installing on Win ME, and other than occasional crashes (which seem to be built-in to Win ME no matter what app is running) it works fine.
April 8, 200124 yr I have been running FM 5.0 with Windows 2000 Professional for over 5 months. I also run FM 5.0 Server over this OS with 100+ files hosted. No problem other than the occasion freeze up on stand alone systems with 20 files running, (up to 1000 relationships per file in Food and Beverage POS systems) that I think are caused by background windows requests (especially with ASDL internet connections in the background). Anybody else have any insight, otherwise... I CAN LIVE WITH MS WINDOWS 2000 until something else can butter my bread better... cause I'm here for the BUTTER!
April 10, 200124 yr In my case it was a new install. FM was working fine at the beginning. The problem occurred after I started installing all my other software. There must have been some conflict that could be fixed with "REPAIR" from the backup. [i have not figured out which software caused the problem]. Regards.
April 12, 200124 yr This sounds SIMILAR to the problem I am having. When I launch FMP5, the program gets to the splash and freezes. On my system, if I leave it for about a minute, it will finish launching and the Open File dialog appears. My FMP5 bound solutions don't have this problem - they launch instantly - only the FMP5 application takes about 1 minute to launch. I wish I could figure out what is causing this problem! It's driving me NUTS!!!!! Reinstalled FMP5 and W2000 Pro, but same ridiculous pause at launch. For the record, I'm running Windows 2000 Professional (Clean Install) on an Athlon 1ghz (ASUS A7V), 256MB ram, Plenty HD Space, Sound Blaster Live, Voodoo 3500TV, Adaptec 2906 SCSI Card, Realtek NIC. This system has MINIMAL software installed! *whew* I think thats everything... [ April 12, 2001: Message edited by: aeleth ]
April 12, 200124 yr I would just about bet that the open splash is 'freezing' at the "initializing TCP/IP". I don't have a solution, but maybe a place to start looking - the IP stack.
April 17, 200124 yr Newbies I have a very similar problem. I've tried to install FM5 on several new Dell machines, but none of these installation s working. When I try to start FM5, the only thing I can see is in the task manager "Filemaker Pro.e" Does anybody have a workaround or the same problem??? Thanks, Martin, Switzerland.

The new Dell machines with Win 2k have some software pre-loaded that FileMaker has a problem with. If you go to the start menu -> Program Files you should see a Yamaha-XG Synth program group. Open that and uninstall. FileMaker will then work correctly. NP!

The one that would not run FM5. I've been trying to come up with a solution for quite a while. Thanks Chesire.
