OK to install 10 and continue developing in 9?

FMP9 Adv

I just purchased FMP10 Adv but I want to continue to develop in FMP9 Adv for the next 6 months. Can I install 10 on my computer to explore and learn the new features, and still continue to develop in 9 without any problems? When I did this during the last upgrade (8.5 to 9), it seemed that all of my 8.5 files defaulted to 9 and I had no control.

My users will not convert to 10 until the fall and I'm going to have to redesign/reconfigure all database layouts (which make use of the left side status area) with the new status area at the top.

Should I install 10 or wait? Thanks for any advice. lpm

You can install 10. I have 7, 8, 8.5, 9, and 10 installed. ???-)

If you open up the version that you want first and then double click the file, it will open it in the app version that you want. I find that is the best way to manage it.

Thank you, that sounds good. One followup Q.

Can FMP9 users access an FMP10 file? I know they will not be able to use the new features (script triggers, etc), but will they still see the status area on the left or at the top? I'm struggling with the position of the new status area at the top.

They will see it on the left. The file format has not changed.
