fmbug Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Dear All, Please let me know, is there any way to convert FileMaker 12 database to (.FMP12) to FileMaker 11 or lower (.FP7) extension. Please tell me, if it is possible. If it is nor directly, then how can I achieve this task. Again, I want to FileMaker 12 database to FileMaker 11 database.
Vaughan Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 No, it is not possible to go backwards in database versions.
eos Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 No, it is not possible to go backwards in database versions. … but you can copy & paste tables, layout objects and scripts from 12 to 11
Vaughan Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Copy and paste isn't exactly "converting", it's rebuilding it from scratch. :D
eos Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Copy and paste isn't exactly "converting", it's rebuilding it from scratch. Of course, but if rebuilding's your only way, then at least you can ease the pain a bit …
fmbug Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 Thanks to you both... I know both these ideas but I need some another way which will help me a lot. Anyway very very thanks.
Newbies pfackelmann Posted March 30, 2013 Newbies Posted March 30, 2013 … but you can copy & paste tables, layout objects and scripts from 12 to 11 Please, how can I do that, i.e. how can I open the fmp12 file to see tables and layouts? Thank you. Peter
Lee Smith Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Have you tried it? It is different doing things in Client than with The Advance. I was testing building a file from scratch using 12 and copying the 11 file and immediately ordered the Advance because it was a PIA using the Client. Haven't tried going back, but it probably wouldn't be easier. HTH Lee
Vaughan Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Please, how can I do that, i.e. how can I open the fmp12 file to see tables and layouts? Thank you. Peter You will need an account that allows full access to the database. Then use the Manage... commands in the File menu to access the innards.
Newbies pfackelmann Posted March 31, 2013 Newbies Posted March 31, 2013 You will need an account that allows full access to the database. Then use the Manage... commands in the File menu to access the innards. I should have been more clear,-) I have FMP 11. Since retired I only need it sporadically; it really doesn't pay off to upgrade. Sometimes I see an example template in v 12 and would like to check it. I can't open it with v 11 and search a way to convert it. FMPro Converter's menu seems to promise that but how? So, if anyone has an idea ... Thank you Peter
Lee Smith Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 And you will not be able to because 12 is written in a different file format then 11, and is not backwards compatible.
