Security is always a big topic when it involves data, or people, or possessions. Recently, over on the FileMaker Community, there was a very beneficial discussion regarding security. Unfortunately, that discussion was the victim of a necessary action...and was deleted. It was deleted, because the discussion was tied to a video that, as was det
Forums are a great way to get technical advice for FileMaker but for some reason, many people don't think they have to be nice in the electronic world. I was raised to say "please" and "thank you" and that has translated over to the internet for me. But, other folks think the anonymity of cyberspace is an excuse to be a jerk. Some posters are outright offensive and others will just leave snide responses like, "that wasn't much help". News flash! People on the internet are real and you should be

Brave because the event takes place outdoors in mid-October at a high enough elevation for nights to grow cold and rainy days, some years, to soak clothes through and […]

I have just posted a new article at FileMaker Weetbicks!
This article is about utilising a technique to allow for instant script execution when an object is hovered over. We use this technique for building various dynamic navigation controls that respond to the users interaction without them clicking the mouse.
We also go into a bit of background history on this technique as well as show some alternative uses.
As always, an extensive example file has been included.

As a business owner, communication with your customers and your employees is key. While FileMaker has long supported sending plain text emails, many businesses find that more immediate communication is critical to their workflow.
These include:
Alerting a customer that their order is ready for pick-up once a job is marked “complete.” Sending photographs of equipment condition at the end of the workday. Confirming availability with an employee to staff an upcoming event.
Now that F
What is Happening? In September 2019, Microsoft announced plans to follow suit with Google and deprecate direct SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) access to their services, meaning that unsecured methods, such as sending emails with FileMaker’s ‘Send Mail’ function, would become obsolete. Claris FileMaker is continually adding new features in order to make things easier for developers. In the most recent release of version 19 we found a new function named Get ( PageCount ). This one function essentially emulates the combination of steps we needed to use to determine the total number of printed pages useful for adding a Page X of Y count to the bottom of a printable report. It's available for use within FileMaker Go, which is a big benefit.
However, while the addition of {{PageNu

I love finding new and clever ways to make my computers work better for me. One of the most transformational productivity tools that I use on a daily basis is a clipboard manager, which saves every bit of text that I copy on my clipboard so that, when I go to paste, I don’t have to be limited by only the most recent item saved to my clipboard. The next evolution of this idea is snippets—things that I may want […]

Because of its age, FileMaker has a variety of options sprinkled in a bunch of different places regarding exporting data. Some of these options relate to getting the exact export of data you need from the software.
In this video I cover a variety of specifics related to exporting data. One feature in particular is controlling the export headers you may need on your custom export. If you've ever needed to provide an output file of either CSV or TAB, and you'd like to have full control over the h
