Hi everyone, i need to calculate how long a job takes from start to finish. problem i have - jobs take longer than 1 day and if the job goes over in to next day or three days ahead it does not give a true representation of how long the job took. e.g.1. I have a billing database. I want a calculation field that tells me if the case that was done was a ON CALL case. All day Saturday and Sunday are ON CALL times. Any case during the week that is between 1800 and 0559 is also ON CALL. I can get a ON CALL field to post a Y for yes when it is saturday or sunday (I have a DateToDay field), but I can't figure out how to put in the range of times for the other days. I am driving at some command like if(StartTime is between 1800-0600, "Y", "N") When I try something like this they are all marked Y because I am guessing that it does not figure out the range correctly by the way I entered it. I've been reading the Advanced Filemaker Pro 5.5 book, by Chris Moyer and Bob Bowers (a GREAT book,, I HIGHLY recommend it), and in it, they present an auditing mechanism, not dependent on plug-ins, originally developed by Bob Cusick. I have a little problem were the layout is longer than the users screen so the user has to scroll up and down the layout. The problem is - at the bottom of the page i have a field with a drop down list which when the user selects from the list they are automatically for some reason taken up to the top of the layout again. So then they have to scroll right back down to the bottom when they need to enter info in other fields at the bottom of the layout is there a fix for this? Help appreciated. Ricardo.

I made question of "Is the physical address the same as the mailing address?" and a drop down list with "yes" "no" ---calling this field autofill mail address If it is yes, the address entered in the fields for physical address are pasted into the fields for mailing address. Don't know if I'm posting in the right forum, but here goes. I work in the entertainment industry and I use a Filemaker DB to track the movies that air on our network and live in our library. Each movie title has it's own record and in that record there is an "AirDate" field, which corresponds to the date in which that movie airs on our network. However some films air more than once, so I find myself constantly rewriting the date in that field. I'd like to find a way to enter multiple dates in that field so that not only can I track when the film is going to air but when it HAS aired in the past. I have a system I made that is in use. I day or so ago one of the users went through the inventory database and changed most of the product descriptions. Later the same day, they went back and the descriptions where back to what they were before! I've tested doing this myself and it works for me. No scripts are run turning the changes it so its not that. I can't see how PEBCAK (problem exists between chair and keyboard) could be to blame. The only problem is that the system is hosted on FM server and used be more the one user. anyone else run into this?

I'm making a tour managment database. As of now, I have crew and bands related to the tour. To add crew or bands to the a tour, i have 2 portals; one listing all crew, one with crew on the tour. I have buttons in the portal to add/remove them. That works fine. But what I want to do is filter out crew that are on the tour already so they can't be added more then once. Can anyone think of a way to do this?

In a solution where there are several databases all interlinked by relationships and you want to create a new version of that solution (with updated database names showing the version, is there an easy way to rename the various databases and keep the relationships intact? We have been having mutilple problems with our database integrity. (See post under Older Versions) I was wondering if some of the scripts could be causing a problem. One script imports items from a shared database and is performed multiple times a day. Should I try to rework this one? Another one imports a found set from a database (2) to a blank database (1) compares it to a third database (3) and deletes those that match from (3). Then it gets a new found set in (2) and compares records in (1) if they match they are marked to pull. I would love to set this up a better way, but have not come up with a solution. I am making a calculation that compares IP addresses to see if they are the same. That is easy enough, but I also want to check to see if they are on the same sub net. for example: 55.56.57.56 55.56.57.69 are not the same IP but they are on the same subnet, because the first 3 numbers on the same but the last is different. But each of the numbers can be 1 to 3 digits and can't just compare the left X numbers, i just want to see if the first 3 are the same. How would your left brain do that?

Exporting of records while running in multi user mode can corrupt a database. I have had an instance where one of my users was exporting e-mail addresses from a database while the system was running in multi user mode, and ever since then - I have had all sorts of trouble with the system. Database corrupt and layouts screwed. Other users were doing their normal daily routine - however the system was slower than normal while this export procedure was being carried out. The problem is that when i change the selling date in the main database the portal doesn't recalculate the calculation field unless i go one record forward and back. Your system probably is not configured correctly, and your workstation copies of FMP may need more memory. Set them to approx 10MB and see if that helps. Be sure to use the latest v-revs as well. Old Advance Man

This File is becoming a real problem for me. Filemaker seems to be crashing with this error (fmeng10.dll) it happens when i go into one of my layouts that is pulling in a lot of data from my child database file. All fields that it is pulling in a indexed and is holding 102356 records. Master file is still very small at this stage. The problem is once this error accours, opening the file sometime damages the child database which means i then will need to do a recovery on the file. Could anyone help me on this issue. I know that FM timestamps things when you want it to, but what I'm looking to do is have a real-time (actually counting the minets and seconds) clock that alerts me when 20 minuets have passed. I know it's already possible w/ javascript, but I need the event noted in the database after 20 minuets. Anyone have any ideas??

I'm working on a calculation that will take two times and determine how many hours & minutes are between them. For example if I input 13:11 and 13:25 the calculation has to determine there is 14 minutes between the two values.. or 13:00 and 15:00 it needs to determine there are two hours between. Each line in (Textfield_one) has a sentence then a carrige return. The field can have up to 50 to 100 lines. and each line can have an odd number of words. Salespeople book ads in "Ad Order.fp5", and scripts enter the appropriate data in "IP Bookings.fp5". Other scripts relay the data to a SQL Server using the Execute SQL script step. It all works, except: When advertisers buy upgraded web packages ("B" or "C") Ad Order.fp5 adds a surcharge to the print booking through a relationship Ad Order to IP Booking based on Cust ID. I have a database that has three fields: studentID date period When someone creates a new record I need some kind of calculation to do this: If a person puts in 000001 (studentID) 3/13/02 (date) and 4 (period) I need the calculation to make sure there isn't already a "period 4" on "3/13/02" for that specific "000001" student. I have figured out that I can avoid the email script and use the URL script to bypass the concern of which email package the client is using. I have created a script that runs a splash screen when the DB is opened. The script "maximizes" the window when it opens. My problem is that as the DB opens it's REAL obvious the screen is resizing and it looks kinda bush league. Is there a technique I can use to open the splash screen to full screen without all the resizing stuff going on?

I have a PowerMac G4/733 with 1.5 gigs of RAM, and I have allocated 500 megs of RAM to FileMaker Pro 5. I have a new database where I imported 5.5 million rows. The import only took about an hour and a half. I then had to create indexes on three columns (fields). And, by looking at how slow the index build is taking, it will take ~81 hours to complete. Since I will be updating (and possibly re-creating) this database weekly, I need a faster way to build these indexes. What do I need to do in order to speed up index-building? I've created a script that "Finds All" and "Sorts" while I'm in a list view. My problem is that if I've done a "Find" then run this script it does not take me back to the top of the page to the firt record. I've tried the Go to Record/Request/Page[First] and it still leaves me about halfway down the page. How can I get it to return to the top of the page in list view.

I'm creating a runtime FM DB that has 5 auxillary files. I'm trying to plan for a future upgrade and want to script the process. Is it tough to do?

I just need to archive records from a line items DB (associated with an invoicing system) to a single record in an archive DB. The use will be the have ppl with laptops on a concert tour. The will be a databae for dates and times etc, which change frequently and need to be tracked from "home base."

Can you have two portals on the same page? I'm trying to create add record scripts for the portals and I'm getting very irrigular behavior.

I need to run an e-mail script in FMP 5.5 every 7 days for four times and then stop. The database is always open (on the web) collecting data. Then it needs to e-mail those people 7 days after they sign up for the list, 14 days, 21 days, and finally 28 days then stop. I just need a little help with the timing part. What can I use to trigger the e-mail script on those 7 day intervals, stopping after 4 repetitions? I need to do this without a plug-in if I can. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hello: I am trying to make a layout where the user can modify a record. I made it with an OK and a Cancel button. I have the OK button just take the user back to the main layout, so that works ok, but I have a few concerns. First, when a person is modifying a record, I don't want them to be able to scroll to the next or previous record. I don't suppose there is a way to prevent the user from scrolling, is there? Also, I was wondering if anyone has ever used a Cancel button before. When the user modifies the fields, I would like to have a Cancel button so they can revert back to the old field values when Cancel is clicked. Any pointers here would be great. …

I have a checkin field (time) and checkout field (time)checkin field (time) and Checkout field. A subtime field (calc), this calc the time for the first checkin and checkout, then a subtime2 field (calc) this calculates the time for the 2nd checkin and checkout. Then a Tot Mon Time field (time)Subtime2-Subtime to get the final for the day. Now I do this for each day and then I have a total weekly period calc (time) that adds each day. My problem is that I want to be able to take the hourly rate x total period hours to get the gross pay. I keep just getting large numbers, I know it must have something to do with the fields being time fields but how do I convert those for c…

In a Portal I have a field "Priority" The user enters a number manual into "Priority" I would then like the Portal sorted numerically. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 etc. With records that don't have anything in the Priority field to be last on the list.

Trying to avoid reinventing the wheel. I'm going to do a filtered portal with 5 popups for choices. (Choice1 Choice2 Choice3 Choice4 Choice5) "All" "All" "All" "All" "All" would show every portal record. "All" "All" Choice3 "All" "All" would show some records and a selection other than "All" in every popup would be the most discriminating. It's a mathematical solution and I'm hoping someone has the formula or an Excel file that will let me calculate all the possibilites and create a text file for pasting into the calc field easily rather than plundering through it . I have a portal set up and a buttom on each line of the protal that is scripted to delete the row. The window that is displayed when the delete script is run is titled FileMaker Pro and indicates "Permanently delete this one related record?" How do I gain control over the contents of this window so that I can title it and use my own description?

i've got a timesheet dbase where employees enter their time for each client each day. Thus, there can be 10-12 entries per day, per employee. Is there a way to calculate HOURS PER DAY PER EMPLOYEE. The only way I have thought is to do an if or case function Case (date (day, month, year), sum(hrs), 0) and then do a summary on that case but that would mean doing that 365 times X 2? anyone have suggestions? thanks!
