Hi there, I'm trying to download BI MAC SECURITY freeware from downloads.com, and can not do it. I can't find this software anywhere else, either. The reason for this is I have an older Power MAC 7300/200, and it will not install OS 9.x. I need some kind of log out system, so that I can leave the machine turned on for night backup. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am running FileMaker Pro Server 5.5 on a G4 under OS 10.1.5. Everything is working fine for offsite access via TCP/IP, but for local users the Local Host option is blank. In other words the served databases do not show up. Local users seem to only be able to access the server via the Internet. What am I doing wrong? Is this a function of FMP Server 5.5, the OS, or what? Also, I am used to using FMP Server on OS9. On OS X it seems very different. I cannot for the life of me find the old familiar File/Folders/Guests window. Did FileMaker, Inc. remove these vital windows from Server on X or am I missing something? Thanks for the help, -Jedi

I know nothing about MAC's and I need to find about 25 staff's MAC systems, to determine whether they will need to upgrade (?) to run FM Pro 6. What questions do I need to ask each person about their specific computer to be sure they are compatible. Do MAC's have the same needs as PC's? I know what a PC needs (RAM, Windows vs. etc) but I'm in the dark on MAC's. Do they need OSx? RAM size? Some staff will be accessing through web from home, so I need to be able to tell them if they have to upgrade in any way.

Have used developer 5.5 on a B&W G3 with 10.1.5 and just bought a new eMac with 10.2 installed. Now when I hold down the option key to enter a password on any of my solutions it goes to the second file in the open script and prompts me for that password and never for the main file. Took them to my G3 and PC and they work fine, prompting for the main file password only. Anyone know anything about this?

  7. I've been running FMP 6.0v1 under OS 10.1.x and recently upgraded to 10.2. FMP 6 seems to run without problems. I had a need to open a database solution in FM Developer 5.5 (since there is no 6) in order to export a DDR file for analysis. Filemaker Developer 5.5 failed to launch with an "unexpected error occurred: code 1000" error. A copy of FMP 5.5 unlimited on this same machine fails with the same error. After re-installing Developer, it opened correctly and I was able to export the DDR file. I then re-launched FMP 6, did some code fixes, closed 6 and tried to launch Developer 5.5. I now get the same "code 1000" error I got prior to the re-install. I'll re-…

I'm normally using FMpro 5.5 on a Windows based computer. ODBC and Sybase implementation is working perfect on this combo. But now we want to have our Macs also gather information from the sybase databasesource, how do I get this working on a Mac? (it seems that some drivers etc are not installed/active on the Mac, but I can't find them) I'm not very familiar with Mac OS9, so that might be the problem..... (I've searched the Internet and FMforums, but couldn't find the exact answer to my question )

Interestingly, I only saw this message on MAC machines, never on the PC. The message reads "You can not connect to the server, because maximum number of users is connected" Meanwhile that's not the case, only 2 or 3 users are connected to the server. Has anyone experienced this with File Maker 5.0 and OS 9.0 ?

Hello, This is a general question and perhaps a filemaker forum isn't the best place to ask for this kind of information, but I tried to find some information on the internet, and I was overwellemed by products so I can use some experienced advice. I am looking for a database that -tracks approval flow -does filetracking But before I start making this in Filemaker i want to check if perhaps there are other more convenient ways of doing this. I will give an example of the kind of info that should be tracked in the database. eg. Suppose: - You make a document in indesign, you send it to a customer, - He/ approves …

However, when he types in the address from his computer, he can't connect to us. I'm sure the TCP/IP address I gave him is correct. We are running FileMaker Server 5.5 on a G4 which is running Mac OS X Server (if that helps). Is there something I need to change in our configuration to make it so he can connect to us? I need to build/Share a database. I've got FM5 (Mac and PC) and one other user here, out of the 4 that will need to share this data, as an older version. 1. With so few users, do I need to get FM Server, or can we simply set up one machine to host the data? The usage will be very low, with each photographer updating data one record at a time as a shot is completed, maybe 10 times a day. 2. Will the web companion allow us to build a solution on one system and have that host it as web pages to the others...or is that worth more trouble than a few CAL's would cost us to do it the other way? Thanks thrill seekers!

  14. For all those whose posts I've read here, who are having problems with 5.5 having updated their system to X.1.5 - I got it sorted, finally. The problem was the preferences file for FMPro. I just deleted it and bingo - now FMPRo starts up, just as before. This is in the "Your Username"/Library/Preferences/FileMaker Pref. Folder, not the general root Preferences folder. It's not a standard text file so you can't edit it or see what's wrong with it. It would be nice if you could... I guess the update to X.1.5 or the networking update changed some features of networking, so when FMPro tried to access the TCP/IP network, it found something which didn't fit any more. …

I have posted similar queries in another forum, but am hoping that there is a connection here with certain port 5003 issues: I have several users working with a FileMaker Server hosted database who are complaining that they are being disconnected frequently. This is on a Blue G3 Tower running OS 9.1 and FileMaker Server 5.0v2. The majority of complaints are coming from users across DSL connections. I'm looking for basic stuff, like how to uninstall applications, basic file management, and maintenance. Does anyone know any URL's they would like to direct me to? Thanks. Paul

Hi, I'm using FMP5.5 on OSX 10.1.1 and have a problem where Filemaker will die when opening a file and give a EXC_BAD_ACCESS and KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS error. Certain files will open without a problem, but others just kill the app before it opens them. I fired up 5.5 on my Windows machine (didn't want to have to go back...) and all files open without a hitch, so I imagine the error doesn't lie in a bad relationship or erroneous calc field. I had a similar error when I tried to Print Preview from an open file and FMP didn't like my OSX HP printer drivers. It would die every time I tried to preview, but worked fine when I uninstalled the hp software. Any ideas/suggestion…

  21. I'm trying to view my web pages served by filemaker without any kind of network connection and I'm running into problems. This is no problem under Mac OS 9. I simply enter some static IP, launch filemaker, a browser, and type in the local static address. Everything runs well. However, I can't seem to get this to work under Mac OS X. The browser never manages to connect -- as soon as I plug in to my network, even still just accessing the localhost, it suddenly works. Anyone know a work around? I'd like to be able to work while I'm on the airplane, etc... (w/o switching back to OS 9) Thanks! Jeffrey

I have an application written in FM 4 running under OS 8.1 which included a container field for a Quicktime movie. The original quicktime movies occupy 7 CDs and when the user clicked on the container, the system would prompt "Please insert CD-6" (or whatever the CD was called). Running the same application under OS X generates a different error message: now it says "I can't find file 'filename'. Please locate it" and it opens the standard open file dialogue. This is not helpful if you have 7 CDs to search. FM must preserve the path information for the container object somewhere, to make available to OS 8. If I can make that visible by copying it into a field, t…

  24. FileMaker is an Apple susidiary, yet OS X 10.1 breaks several features in this great program. I am no talking about the absence of the toolbars (a yippee yippee Windows sop I can do without), but something much more essential to developing FileMaker solutions. I am a FileMaker developer and after updating to OS X 10.1 I can no longer copy and paste when in calculation dialog boxes. FileMaker tech support tells me that the bug is in OS X, not FileMaker. What a pain this is when editing a number of calculations or script steps containing calculations that are similar enough to copy, paste and change the variable necessary. So I am now launching the Classic version to …

Last August I got a Cube, last month I got 1 new IMAC. These 2 Mac termiate the connection to the server und freeze after a while. The server notes "cube(imac) doesn t answer, connection is cut.". Relunching the Filemaker with Apple, control and esc FM will work a while and freeze again. [ April 19, 2002, 09:20 AM: Message edited by: macgyn ]

  30. On some days, when the computer is feeling more temperamental than other days, when we try and open our main database, a message pops up " 'Client gen info' is currently in use and could not be opened. The file is single-user or the host could not be found on the network" The server *is* on the network, and our way round it is to open it through filemaker, via clicking on 'host'. This always works, so it's not a huge problem, just abit annoying. Especially when you have to do the same for all the related databases which open with it. I've been running DB files on FM 5 UL on a G4 server. Some are accessed both via the web (using Webstar/Lasso) and FM clients. I have put aliases of all the currently active DB files in the Startup folder so if I have to do a server restart, they open back automatically. I am migrating the DB files over to a new additional G4 running FM 5.5 Server, and opening them on the original FM UL copy on the old server for web access. I've run across a problem, maybe because I'm not particularly technical, with the new aliases I created. 1) I want to create a three level password system for a peer to peer FileMaker network solution. Does the password level of the person who opens the solution on the file host determine access of guests who access the solution subsequently? i.e. if a level 2 person opens the solution first, can a level 1 user login with greater access? 2) If a level 3 user logs in with access to only 2 of the 6 files in the solution, will the relational data still appear in the accessable files even though the user does not have priveliges to open the parent file? Any insight would be wonderful. ~Dennis
