Newbies davep Posted June 24, 2002 Newbies Posted June 24, 2002 Using several related databases that are shared through Web Companion (most recent version of FM for Windows - 10 user version), we have a database that *seems* to change which password it is opened with . It may be that the database is closing and re-opening using a lesser password. Doesn't seem, however, that there are any "unexpectedly quit" database signs, like checking blocks etc. The database is called by others through a relation and is also edited directly through Web Companion. The database is shared through Web Companion with 3 users at a different location and 1 user who edits it directly at the host location via Filemaker connecting to it from another machine not using Web Companion but just Filemaker from Macintosh. Tried downgrading to one version previous of Web Companion and it still does that. The only hypothesis I can think of is that somehow the 10 user limit thinks it's being violated somehow, although they have fixed IPs and so it closes the file only be automatically reopened using a default password. I can't seem to find a way to verify this, however, since it all happens so quick. Anyone know of a way to tell from a log file or something whether the 10 user limit thinks it's been violated? Also, Norton Antivirus is running on the system. Thinking that should be disabled? Or any other ideas why this odd thing might be occuring? Finally, anyone have a suggestion of a scripting language that I can use to open databases with specific passwords (similar to Applescript, but for Windows). Thanks so much for anyone's thoughts. Dave
Vaughan Posted June 24, 2002 Posted June 24, 2002 On the host machine (the one running Web Companion) what password is it being opened with? Does the db have a "default" password set in the document preferences? The user connecting through FMP client can access it through any password they like: this won't affect the web service.
