IWP on office intranet, and dial-up?

Featured Replies

I am installing FM6 in a small ethernetted office. One secretary will run FM and I want another machine to access her database through IWP. The problem is TCP/IP. How do I get the intranet ip address of the host?

The host and client machines each access the internet through their respective internal dial-up modems. The ISP assigns them each a temporary IP. I have found that FM does serve to that temporary IP, but of course that is not the one I want. I want the one that the ethernet hub uses, ie. the LAN IP. How do I get that?

In my own office I have solved it with a router. The ISP assigns the IP to the router and my individual machines have permanent office-wide IP's assigned by the router. I can get to the IWP databases via the LAN IP's

The guy I am doing this for doesn't want to go this route because he likes it that his different machines have independent internet connections.

On a particular machine does the ethernet card have a different IP from the modem? If so how can I get the IP of the ethernet card, or how can I get FM to serve IWP from it?

I hope I'm making some sense. It's difficult to describe. But surely I can't be the first to run into this problem.

Both host and client are win98.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Start -> Run -> WinIPCFG

Select the network card from the drop down...
