remote administrator?

Featured Replies

what do I need to admin a cdml site. The files are being hosted on a PC (fmp6) web companion has remote admin with password turned on. So now on my remote mac what is require?

I am assuming that I can get a browser interface to open and close files. Is this true?

You need to be using the Web Security databases for access privileges -- remote admin lets you add and remove users and passwords. The three Web Security files need to be open. The corresponding Web Security HTML format files also need to be in the Web folder (or the cdml_format_files folder as your desire). Make a note of the name of the folder the WS format files are in.

On a remote computer, open a web browser and enter the url of the web server and the path to the web security format files. You should be prompted for a username and password: the username is "admin" no quotes.

You can only open and close databases if the actual database files are in the Web folder. However, placing the files in the Web folder is very poor security because web users can download anything in the Web folder just by typing in the url.

You should read the web security white paper on the FMI web site.
