many thanks,

Karen

Hi, Karen! I actually haven't really used IWP except to help folks with their questions but we should be able to get you going. I'll post your Q for you in the Instant Web Publishing forum, too...

Now, a lot depends on your network configuration, e.g. if you have a router, what kind of IP address you have, etc. The ideal is to have a "static" IP address that does not change so anyone on the internet can always find your server. If you have a "dynamic" IP address, like most home networks, the IP will keep changing so it's hard to keep track of it. If you have a router that takes your "main" IP address and re-distributes internal IP addresses like 192.168.x.x, the IP address will not typically be accessible from outside the network and you'd have to configure the router to do "port forwarding" to the appropriate computer on your internal network. Sorry, that's a lot to digest but we'll zoom in on things if they apply to your situation.

Now, to use IWP in FM4-6 (and I assume something similar in FM7), you must have your FM databases open, the FM Web Companion Plug-in activated, and the databases must be shared via Web Companion. Once these 3 things are accomplished, I think going to that computer's IP address in a web browser should be all there is unless the computer or network has a Firewall or something that might be interfering.

If this does not work for you, reply to this as a PM or in the posts with some more details about your situation and we'll narrow down the problem and get you Web Publishing in no time. It's really fun and exciting when it all works!
