Search results come up in a view that I cannot add text to. (?)

Well I've flipped through 37 pages and no one has mentioned this, so I must be doing something obviously off...

Is there any way I can select which layout comes up when a user does a search?

I'm trying to have a user find his or her specific record by name, and so my first window is a search. But when I do a search the resulting window is a table view, where I need to add some directions for my young users. But no matter what layout I choose to be the table view,(in the web companion view setup) a search results in a table that includes the correct fields but none of the text that I have created in the layout.
