Jimmmmy Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 (edited) Im new in the whole Filemaker world, and Im loving it so far. I hope to be able to help in the forum once I get enough experience soon. I have encountered what appears to be a common issue, like many as I have seen throught the forum as I tryied to search for an answer before posting. So here whats going on: Ive enabled IWP, Added FM and FM Web Asistant (what ever that is) to the exceptions on Windows Firewall (I had to turn off Nortons, since it was bugging me too much), as well as adding port 591 to the exceptions for IWP to use. When I enable it, I get en Internal IP, but I am NOT through a router, ive tried using http://External.Ip:port/ but that doesnt seem to work, I get a "cant find server" page. Ive also searched for a Web Companion Plugin, but didnt find it in preferences nor downloadable in the internet. Ive searched this forum and Filemaker Support for hours and have not been able to find a solution. I dont know what else to do. Im using FM 7 Pro on WinXP Pro SP2 on a 512MB ADSL conection. Im desperate, please help with suggestions. Thanks in Advanced. *-Jimmy Edited October 26, 2005 by Guest
CyborgSam Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 JImmy-> Welcome to the forums! What do you mean when you say you get an Internal IP? FileMaker uses Windows IP address, all the user can change in FileMaker is the port. Does your ADSL modem act as a router? Is your computer's IP address directly on the Internet or is it in of these ranges: 10.0.0.0-10.255.255.255, 172.16.0.0-172.31.255.255, 192.168.0.0-192.168.255.255? Normally, IWP will use port 80, did you manually specify port 591 in the Sharing... menu? Using the same PC, have you tried http://localhost:591 (or http://localhost if using port 80) to verify that IWP is up & running? In Window's Firewall Control Panel on the Exceptions tab, in the list, Edit FileMaker's entry and then click Change Scope.... Make sure the "My network (subnet) only" is not selected: either allow all computers access or list ones you want to limit access to.
Jimmmmy Posted October 26, 2005 Author Posted October 26, 2005 Thanks for the reply Sam... what I meant by Internal IP was a 192.xxx and external the 201.xxx. I just found out my modem does act like a router, and Ive just accessed its settings. But my port forwarding settings are not working properly... I never had to modify settings for any Online games or p2ps before. What exactly do I forward my port to? Do I redirect TCP 591 to 192.xxx? Thanks. - Jimmy
Jimmmmy Posted October 26, 2005 Author Posted October 26, 2005 These are the options given to me in my modem's settings: http://www.geocities.com/jgarzafe/Screen.gif - Jimmy
CyborgSam Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Jimmy-> One thing that isn't perfectly clear: have you changed IWP's default port from 80 to 591? If so, use the add entry, the UDP/TCP port range is 591-591, Choose Protocol should be set to TCP. Select Redirect selected protocol/service to IP Address and enter your PC's local address (192.180...If not, notice that port 80 is NOT being forwarded, the router is handling it. Click the Edit button for port 80, select Redirect selected protocol/service to IP Address and enter your PC's local address. Sam
Jimmmmy Posted October 29, 2005 Author Posted October 29, 2005 Thank you sooo much sam.. I was able to get it to work yesterday in the afternoon. I really appreciate it. - Jimmy
