Emptying a Portal in IWP

I'm running a d/b through IWP which allows users to select descriptions of modules associated with a particular Uni course from a list.

The choices are placed in a portal for selective printing.

Emptying the portlan when selecting a new course works fine in FM but not in IWP.

Ideas?
