Just started with FMP and am in need of some help.

I want to use a modified version of the Photo Catalog template on our local network. Its a very simple layout, 3 fields:

Product Code

Product Name

Notes

and another field for a photo.

I have made the modifications I want and it all works well. I would now like to publish it (using IWP) on our local network so people can use it without having the FMP application.

However, I believe there are some limitations that may prevent this. If I understand correctly some scripts will not work with the IWP feature, such as Import Picture and Export Picture.

Is there anyway around this or maybe a better way of doing it?

Basically, I want people to be able to create new records and add a picture (JPG < 200k) to each one and also search for products by code or name and export the picture.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Even with plug-in's you may have trouble achieving what you're after -- given only the fact that you may have trouble locating a cheap plug-in that will operate server side.

There are however various work arounds for this. The only one i can honestly suggest in simple form is to have a network drive mapped on every user's drive and simply have them save it at a specified location with the required ID -- then use the web viewer object to display the image on a layout using a calc pointing to the default save location + the id of the product in question. This would (only an assumption as i don't yet utilise fm 8.5) also allow users to directly "save" the image by rigt clicking it and selecting the save as option.

Alternatively, in terms of the users having to manually deal with saving with the product id, there may be a way to achieve this using the webviewer object to execute a simple vb script.

We'll have to call on Wim at this point however.. he is kind of brilliant normally, but more so with vb script :) .

Anyway, what i was thinking in terms of vbscript was:

1) Pop up standard file selection dialog

2) Store FilePath

3) Copy File and rename to new location

I would write the code for this, it's actually not that long but to be honest, because i've no experience with the behaviour of the webviewer, or even the output it present's i can't really advise you here.

Anyway, just my suggestions, likely bad, but someone will be along to help you shortly i'm sure.
