I am running FileMaker Pro 8.5v1 on OSX 10.4, now 10.4.8. Instant Web Publishing had been working until the reboot after installing the combined update to 10.4.8. Now when I try to start IWP, I get the spinning wheel for ca. 30 seconds and then the following dialog:

"FileMaker cannot share files over the Web because Instant Web Publishing could not be started."

I have Personal Web Sharing turned off in the firewall settings and a separate entry set up open on port 80; this had been working until yesterday. Network sharing still works.

A Google search for "Instant Web Publishing could not be started" reveals that others have had this problem but is not so helpful in indicating a solution. I have tried reinstalling FM Pro but without solving the problem. I don't see any updates on the FM site applicable to 8.5.

Any thoughts?

Thank you!

Christopher

I think I have solved the problem. I removed the preference file /Applications/FileMaker Pro 8.5/Extensions/Web Support/web.prefs and restarted FileMaker. FM created a new (clean) pref file and IWP now works.

It's all a matter of finding the right prefs to trash.

I hope this will help some other poor soul with the same trouble.

Nicely done!

Thanks for the tip there - Had FileMaker Pro 7 running IWP fine, then installed 8.5 and Web Publishing could not be started!

Did the little fix and whey hey! It worked!
