Hello-

I am currently demoing filemaker in order to eventually purchase it and I would like to know is it possible to set up different access levels with the Web Companion? As far as I can tell there is never a prompt for a password with the web companion. Please help and thank you for your timed.

Sure, you can setup fairly complex security. Check out File-->Access Privileges.

Even better than Access privileges is the Web Security database. In it you can create create records that specify access privileges for each database, and within each database access privileges for each user. Much more secure and more control.

One of the major limitations with using Access Privileges -- database built-in passwords -- is that the browser only authenticates on the password, the username field is ignored. So it's much harder tracking users, and much harder adding and removing passwords. The Web Security database does not suffer these problems.

I tried using the Web Access database. I saw how to set permissions for a user to the database but did not see how to set field level permisions for each user. Did I miss something?

Web security cannot do field-level restrictions on a user-by-user basis. FMP 5.5 offers record-level security which the user guide suggests is also available for databases published on the web. How, I dunno. It's a shame Web security doesn't support it.
