March 12, 200718 yr Newbies You've undoubtedly heard this before. Turned on IWP, created accounts, set access privileges, turned on Safari, typed in 192.168.1.8:79, voila, I was accessing my file via the Net....until that is I tried stepping into the next office and entering the same thing there. No response. So, what am I doing wrong? Do I need a static IP address (I can buy one, no problem)? If so, how do I get it linked to my files?
March 12, 200718 yr Welcome! Re your question... Huh? What do you mean by next office -- like next cubicle? Or next building and tried accessing the file within the original building?
March 12, 200718 yr Author Newbies Genx, Thanks for getting back. SOHO in a small, 52 square meter apartment. Five Macs linked via an Ethernet network and sharing a company fiber optic link to the Net. Next door = 8 feet away, with cable running around the wall. Filemaker 8.5 Advanced is the Filemaker version installed on my Mac Mini, where the files I am trying to publish also reside. Filemaker 8 on the machine from which I was trying to access the file using a web browswer. We currently use Filemaker filesharing to access files residing on other machines via our local network. No problem with that. Looking forward to what you have to suggest. John Edited March 12, 200718 yr by Guest
