January 26, 200124 yr Hello All, Question about creating a "Report" layout. Is there a way to list records side by side in columns, as opposed to row (ie. next to each other as opposed to one above the other)? For example, suppose I have 3 fields (Date, Player, Coach). I want to be able view the data as follows (I've inputed fake information for the example): Date 1/25/01 1/26/01 Player Michael Jordan Kobe Bryant Coach Phil Jackson Phil Jaskson Any help would be greatly, grealty appreciated!
January 26, 200124 yr One not-so-good way is to use (ulp!) repeating fields and orient them horizontally.

I have been trying to solve this for 5 years. Noone has been able to supply a practical solution yet. Chris
January 31, 200124 yr Why can't you use three portals that touch left to right, each with a different field name in the portal? You would have to create a scrip the scrolled each portal but that would be pretty easy (I think).
January 31, 200124 yr Enter Layout Mode and choose "Layout Setup" from the "Layout" Menu. Place a check in the "Print in Columns" option. THen enter the number of desired columns. Then you can place the fields on the layout like this. Date 1/25/01 1/26/01 Player Michael Jordan Kobe Bryant Coach Phil Jackson Phil Jaskson Then resize your Body so it is just large enough to hold those fields mayge 3inches tall. Make sure to leave enough room on the right side for the other two columns to print. Now enter preview mode to see how it will look when printed. Hope that helps G
January 31, 200124 yr I agree with Chris on this one. If you want the records to print: Record 1 Record 2 Record 3 Record 4 Record 5 Record 6 there is really no easy way (export to Excel?). The answer G gave you will produce: Record 1 Record 46 Record 91 Record 2 Record 47 Record 92 Record 3 Record 48 Record 93 . . . where the record number than appears next to Record 1 will depend upon the height of the body part and length of the page. -bd
February 1, 200124 yr Yup, you're correct. The key here is "in a report". There is a similar question in another thread about multiple columns in Browse mode (which I don't know how to do). Sorry for the brain fade. Use the Layout setup... options, select the number of columns and "across first". -bd [This message has been edited by LiveOak (edited January 31, 2001).]
February 1, 200124 yr Using the layout/columns route works except: You can only see the columns in preview mode and if you are using field labvels down the left side, they will appear in each of the columns. I can get two columns side by side by creating a self-relationship with a suitable matching field and using a portal with the fields arranged vertically. I have not yet worked out how to use three or four portals showing a different record in each. Chris (I have just joined this forum - why am I a 'Junior member' at the age of 62??) February 6, 200124 yr Just a thought: What about turning the layout sideways... use columns, but rotate the fields so the text prints sideways...
February 6, 200124 yr I was going to suggest getting a few bricks, and propping the monitor up on it's side. Sometimes a low tech solution is best.
