Remote users cant logon to DB

I'm just a beginner so I hope there's help for me. When I turn on IWP I can log on to my database with my browser. But others at different locations can't get to IWP page. Any thing I should check?

Are the "different locations" outside of your local area network? By that I mean, connecting in through the internet.

If so, you'll need to read up on port forwarding.

Also check into the firewall settings of your router. You'll probably have to open the correct ports.

Yes I did mean thru the internet. I enabled IWP for the file I was using. The default port is 80 which I changed due to a conflict and that was accepted.

are you serious about port forwarding...nowhere in the docs have I read you must fwd a port.

Though 2 different addresses show up 1 in the IWP set up and a different 1 in network control panel.

Anybody "outside" on the internet can only see your broadband router. It needs to route requests through to other computers inside your LAN.

That's what port forwarding does.

It's got nothing to do with FileMaker Pro; it's about your network setup.

Thx for your responses. I realize that the problem isn't with fm...that it's with my setup. It's just that fm says how great it is to be able to connect with IWP from anywhere on the web and then doesn't mention in the slightest as to how to go about it. They plainly explain how to connect with the intranet but no mention how to w/internet. I've seen this very question posted by others on various forums but not once seen an answer. Not looking for a step by step. But some clear idea how to go about it.

Thx..I did check out the video. Nice job of explaining port fwding. So now that I know what port fwding is I hope someone will tell me and a lot of others What we need to do to get IWP running. Is there a port I need to fwd? Is there a rule we need to set up to get incoming request sent to the right IWP port? Sorry, guess I'm just a little thicker than some.

The default port running under standard FileMaker Pro hosted IWP is port 591 which needs to be forwarded to your computer's IP address. If you are forwarding for use with FileMaker Server, then the port will most likely be 80. The link that Stuart posted in that topic should help you forward the relevant port on your router.

To check your PC's IP address:

Once you have finished setting up and forwarding ports, go to www.whatismyip.com . Provide the following link to someone located OUTSIDE of your local network http://:591

To use inside your local network, use whatever your are using now...
