David McQueen Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Finally getting a chance to play with fmp12. in Inspector, position, I used to have the choice of inches, centimeters or pixels. In fmp12 the default choices are inches, centimeters and what I assume are points. Are pixels gone? I am guessing they probably are because of retina displays doubling up on the resolution, but I would like to know for sure.
doughemi Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Correct. 1 point is 1/72 inch regardless of screen resolution, platform, or whatever.
pixi Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 FileMaker Pro now manages layouts using points instead of pixels. On most computer screens, 1 point equals 1 pixel. On some high-resolution displays (such as the Retina display on iPhone), FileMaker Pro manages the display conversion to ensure proper screen rendering. By default, layout objects can be moved in 1 point increments. You can use the Inspector to place objects at intermediate values for precise sizing and placement of printed output. https://www.filemaker.com/12help/html/fmp_basics.3.19.html
David McQueen Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 Thanks for that. I ran into the difference when trying to use old layout element sizes in a new project. I did the translation and was mildly annoyed until I thought of the new screen resolutions in retina displays side by side with older displays and the design problems that incurred. But I wanted to be sure.
