Newbies Getaway Posted April 24, 2002 Newbies Posted April 24, 2002 Hi, I'm new to the Forum, and FMP 5.5. We will be using a dedicated Windows computer and Instant Web Publishing to post our related database of applicants to the web so that a four-campus committee can view data and especially peruse scanned images of the aplicant's paper file. I'm using the contents of a field called ID# to create a calculated field DOCUMENTS that contains the ID# and ".pdf" which is the name of the file the person scanning will assign to the document. Can I add a field to the layout that holds file://path/documents ? Would that translate as a hyperlink? Or Is the best way to use the Open URL file script? If so, where do I put it in the layout, how does it execute, how does it stop (the user would remain in Adobe Reader or worse Acrobat if it's loaded)? Is there any way I can embed a graphic in a container field which when published links to file://path/ocuments and open the respective applicant's pdf file? Does anyone have any ideas. I have read the manual, all the threads, searched this site and FileMaker's.
Jeff Spall Posted April 25, 2002 Posted April 25, 2002 Hi, what you're asking to do is soooooooo easy if you can create a few custom web pages with CDML. It's really worth the effort and compared to any other dynamic web language is fast and easy to both learn and use. "instant' publishing is a neat trick straight-from-the box, but it's very limiting. regards, jeff - mail me if you want a few working pages to give you a start with the code.
Newbies Getaway Posted May 9, 2002 Author Newbies Posted May 9, 2002 Jeff, I had tried to email; perhaps I did not do it properly. Yes, I would like all the help I could get with CDML. thanks.
Jeff Spall Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 Hi, if you mail me at [email protected] and maybe give a brief outline of whe=at you want to do I'll make some pages with CDML tags for you. regards, jeff
