Yosemite and FMS

Featured Replies

So . . . It's clear at this point that FMS will not run a on a machine running Yosemite. What about client machines running Yosemite accessing FMS on a machine NIT running Yosemite? I'm assuming this is fine but wanted to check with others before updating my client machines.

Why would you want to upgrade your client machines at this point?  It's one thing if you buy a new machine, but upgrading?  Better to wait a few weeks/months and let the fixes trickle in first.

Good Heads up.  I like the "minor issue".  Yes a minor issue... like...which will cause a crash.  LOL  - RC

I ended up upgrading my MBP to Yosemite. So far I'm less than amused. Accessing FM files on the server works fine and I'll avoid developing on this machine until there's an update of FMPA 13 to avoid the possible crashes. What has me less than gruntled is the slowness of the OS. However, I'll wait until Time Machine has finished the 10gb + backup before coming to a hard conclusion. Overall so far Yosemite runs like a pig. Very slow to perform any task from launching applications to even opening windows.

Upgrade my client to Yosemite and Web View cannot launch a HTTP Basic Auth dialog to prompt for password when visiting a secured website. Need to file a bug report.

Being a subsidiary of Apple, I just assumed that Filemaker Server would be ready for Yosemite. Whoops.

As has been said in other posts. FileMaker being a subsidiary of Apple doesn't mean they get advanced notice any more than other developers.

I am surprised how snappy and speedy Yosemite us!

But - Filemaker is notably slower, especially in layout mode.

Probably because Yosemite cleaned up your drive as part of the install.

Is this while on server, or in single user mode?

We are still on Filemaker Pro 11 and I just upgraded my machine to OS X Yosemite, v.10.10.

In the Finder I highlighted the Filemaker Pro Advanced application and selected Get Info.

I then checked "Open in Low Resolution."

Thereafter, Filemaker Pro Advanced 11 has appeared to work fine (or as well as it did in Mavericks).

Hope that helps.

Designr, This is a duplicate post.

I have removed your other post as a duplicate. Please don’t post your question  multiple times.

  • 3 weeks later...

This thread began on October 17.  Now we're well into November.

Do we have any idea when FileMaker Server 13 will be Yosemite compatible?  I purchased a new MacMini for a new client system we're developing, and realize now I can't run the system on the new box until FMS 13 is Yosemite compatible.  Just curious if we have a time frame yet.

Nothing official yet. Though based on time frame from previous releases/patches, I would suspect one is coming soon. Whether that is this month or March, I don't know. LOL

I can add two more presumed bugs to FileMaker running in Yosemite.

1. Animated GIFs don't work as they previously did. They don't play at all.

2. The temporary folder seems to "time out." I have some scripts that temporarily store PDFs. The scripts worked flawlessly in Mavericks. Now...if the work session extends very long...the script throw up an error. Restart and the error disappears. I'm wondering if there is some sort of app nap type feature that is at play here, but turning off App Nap within FileMaker itself doesn't appear to resolve the problem.

I will also say that aside fro these two bugs I've found no other perturbations in two weeks of usage.

I use the temporary folder all the time using FM 13 and Yosemite. I can't say I've encountered any issues.

So, what we are saying here is that there will be no new customers?

How can I spec a new Mac FMS system? I can't.

I can't go with the customer to the Apple Store to shop. Sad, Sad, Sad. And very frustrating.

There will be an update to fix it. You have to give FMI time to test the fix.

So what's your point? I believe a patch was released to resolve the Yosemite issues.

To this point 13 has been nothing but an improvement in stability and usability.

I apologize for posting my frustration in this thread. You are absolutely right that the Server 13 is performing just fine with Yosemite now. And the new HTML interface is indeed terrific (!). I wouldn't want to miss it. My beef is with FMP, not FMS. If I could delete my mis-categorized post I would.

No apologizes necessary. Post a new thread and lets talk about your frustrations with FMP. I've learned often other developers have come up with ways to overcome things that cause me frustration. Not always, but often.

Use the Members Lounge for this instead of a specific topic.

Thank you Lee and Josh, I'll do that. It's all well known stuff - but who knows, maybe someone found workarounds or remedies.

Yeah. I would say 80% of my pain points with FM just have to be dealt with. But over the last year or so I've run into a bunch of articles and other things that included a way to gracefully handle certain issues. And most of the time, it was a side point to the main article. Something that they have always done and didn't realize we didn't all know it.

One big change in my development, that resolved a lot of issues I had was simply understanding and using transactions, and also the Virtual List. They both changed the way I develop. Now for me it just more experience, so I can develop faster. Because right now I feel like a slow, semi-frozen, snail. I may not be that bad, but it still feels like things take too long. lol
