March 13, 200322 yr I'm new at web companion and don't know a whole lot about it. This is how I am configured: FMPro 6.0V1 on a workstation with the web companion enabled. We have shared each of the 8 databases that I have. I cannot do a find and get any information from the database. When I go to enter a new inventory item, none of the relationships between the databases are working. Also I have the databases tabbed so you can see each of them, but when I click on the tabs I am not able to navigate between databases. Can anyone help?
March 20, 200322 yr Oh boy. You will find that IWP is next to useless. Still, good for single flat db with stamp collection.
March 20, 200322 yr Author What would be the best software to use, for someone that develops in Filemaker for web publishing relational databases that include scripts, value lists, portals, calculations and all the other bells and whistles that Filemaker provides to make a program so operational?
March 21, 200322 yr Lasso 6. You do not want to use FM scripts on web, but Lasso scripts are much more powerful than FM. If you sacrifice all scripts then WebCompanion and Custom Web Publishing works just great. HTH
March 25, 200322 yr Hi, Dobbers! I don't know what the pro developers use, but my buddy and I just use the basics... DreamWeaver (w/FMP-friendly plug-in) PageMill (look out for code-changing, though!) Photoshop IE, Netscape, Safari FMP Web Tools (comes pre-installed) If you're a coder, you'll want BBEdit or some other code-wise text editor, but DW code editor should be good enuf. Some folks outgrow FileMaker's web publishing capability, but IMHO it can do MOST everything that can be done from FMP directly... just be wary of scripts as Anatoli advised (search the posts for heated debates) since simultaneous executions can cause problems in most situations. Security can also be an issue, but hopefully you're not storing confidential information.
