I have a web enabled file (main.fp5) that relates to another file (assignments.fp5) on my web server. There's a portal showing related records. If I connect to the main file using FMP6 and I create a new record in main.fp5, the blank portal row is there and I can add new related records as usual. If I connect using a web browser and create a new record in main.fp5, I cannot add a portal row, unless one has already been created using the client.

We're running Unlimited 5. Is this a limitation with 5 or is this just a limitation of web companion?

BTW, I'm using IE for Mac OSX. Any insight appreciated.

Hi! I don't have an answer for you.. I just wanted to commiserate, because we have the same dilemma!!!! Its really annoyoing!!! I'm sure no one has answered this because they are tired of stating that IWP is "very Limited". My own conclusion so far is that you simply can't use Portals for Web Companion if you are using IWP. I'm speculating but I assume thats because IWP just simply can't access 2 database files at a time. If the field in question does not belong in the record you are entering it can't embed a whole different form inside the main form that puts data that "other" database. You may notice it might display data, you just can't edit it.

If you are using IWP, it is a limitation of your abilities and knowledge as a designer.

IWP is WYSIWYG. That is very limiting unless you can figure out how to make it work for you. I don't believe there are any manuals for that. It must all be trial and error.

Good luck with IWP. I hope its in your budget. laugh.gif
