July 2, 200421 yr Hi All, I have a FMP7 database that works pretty well via IWP, except for one lousy field. No matter what I do, I cannot make this field active in order to enter text. Other fields on the same page work OK. I can duplicate one of the OK fields in Layout mode, and the duplicate works, but when I reassign that field element (in Layout mode) to the field I need it to be, I can no longer enter text in the field. It's just dead. Otherwise, the fields are identical except for their names ("Initials" works; "Comments" doesn't.) Has anyone else experienced a field that just won't open for editing in the browser? I get the same results with Explorer as I do with Safari. Thanks!
July 2, 200421 yr Are you sure the offending field isn't a calculation field or set to not allow modification in the field definition?
July 2, 200421 yr Author Yes, Queue, the offending field is a text field, with the same plain-jane auto-enter and verification options as the other field that works fine. Aargh.
July 2, 200421 yr Howdy, howdy! Unfortunately, I don't have FMP7 and I do not use IWP but is the field selectable / changeable on the main layout? FORMAT FIELD allows you to disable selection/editing of a field's contents. Also, are there permissions set? Access Privileges can deny access to fields or make them read only. I do not think duplicating a field on a layout is the way to go... look for issues pertaining to that field. If it is a simple field, can you just define a new field and see if it does what you want? --ST
July 2, 200421 yr Does it have another layout item on top of it? You can do this in FMP and it will work in FM but not on the web. Dana Can you attach the file, and we can try to reproduce/fix it?
July 2, 200421 yr Author Bingo, Steve. In my troubleshooting, I created the field anew, and new fields default to "View Only." Once I changed the permissions, all is well. (Man, it's always the simplest, stupidest things, ain't it?) Thanks for your help! A.T.
July 2, 200421 yr Yup, it's often something like that but there's so many of them, I always lose track! Glad it worked out. Cute, baby, Dana, but I always thought our physical sciences representation on FMFORUMS was always a little low... I'll miss the... methane? hydrocarbon chain? Ah, well... I've nearly forgotten all my undergrad bio stuff. --ST
