September 2, 200421 yr Newbies I'm trying to develop a new solution in FMPro with the intention that it's published on an intranet via IWP. I can't get the script step "new window" to open a new window in IWP (it works fine in FM). I've checked in Internet Explorer & Safari--both with popup blocking off & javascript on. Neither works. The window just refreshes. To make sure some other script or setting wasn't interfering, I even created a brand new database with only a window-opening button, but that didn't work either. I searched the forums for similar posts & didn't find any (new user to this forum). Any ideas? Thanks.
September 8, 200421 yr Author Newbies That's what I thought... but then why isn't "new window" greyed out when I select "indicate web compatibility" in the ScriptMaker window? Thanks for your reply.
September 17, 200421 yr What other steps do you have in the script along with the new window step? When I first created a script to create a new window, I had a few steps that were not IWP compatible. I thought it would just ignore them and do the steps that were compatible. This is not the case. As soon as I deleted the steps in the script that were not compatible, the new window script worked. It would create a new window. HTH, John
September 27, 200421 yr My new window doesn't work in IWP either, yet it says it is supposed to. My suggestion. Go to layout. Its kind of a crappy work around, but its the easiest way I could find. Also, its not another step in your script. Make a button, put New window on it, and click on it in IWP, just doesn't work.
December 14, 200421 yr Newbies I have new windows pop up occasionally when data needs to be checked. To make sure that the user can get back to where they were, I use a new window that can be closed, leaving the past window in view. In Filemaker a new window pops up, and i can still see the old window below it. In IWP, a new window DOES OPEN. It just opens into the current browser window. You can consider this window on top for all intents and purposes though. Even the name in the browser bar will change if your window has a different name. Just make sure to have a close button if you want to access the window below it.
September 1, 200520 yr I still don't see a new window in IWP. As Zero Tolerence mentioned, defining a button to open a new window does not seem to work in IWP. The title bar of the open IWP window does not change to the name of the new specified window. How come it's working for some but not for others? Could it have something to do with the browser version or Service Pack (SP) version? I'm using IE 6.0 with SP1. Maybe it works when SP2 is installed? Edited September 2, 200520 yr by Guest
September 2, 200520 yr So I tried it using a trial version of FM8 on a computer that has SP2 (still using IE 6.0) and it seems to work--at least the title bar of the open IE window changes to reflect the window name specified in the New Window script step. In my previous post, I was on a computer running FM Dev 7, so I'm not sure if it is the SP2 or the FM8 that makes the difference. But it seems to ignore the window size and placement specifications in the script step. The end result appears to be that there is still only one window open--it's just the name of the window that's changed. You cannot layer one window on top of another. If you close this window, then you close the browser, and you have to reopen the FM IWP database. If this is the way that New Window works in IWP, then I'm not sure what use it is. Can anyone think of a practical application? Am I missing something? Edited September 2, 200520 yr by Guest
September 27, 200520 yr A "New Window" script step [FMSA 7.03 Win/Mac] consistently gives me the contents of that alleged new window in the existing browser window. If I put a "Close Window" button in that window, however, that new content disappears/closes to reveal the referring page content beneath it. But if you use the browser's Close Window, everything closes, just as you would expect. Summary: On either Mac or Win FMSA, using IWP, I have never seen a New Window script step produce a new browser window.
