IWP - browser erases formatting from text

Featured Replies

I am planning to buy Server 7 Advanced but before I do so I tested my database using the client's built-in web publishing. I assume that both make use of the same or similar engine and that they will both make the same mistakes. So here I go:

If I use the client to format text in a text field (let's say, make it red) and then activate the same text field in the web browser (by clicking into it), the text changes to black, but upon exiting from the record and returning to it, I noticed that the formatting remained intact. If, however, I add a character to the end of the existing red text, the formatting for the entire text box gets lost. I assume that this has to do with the fact that browsers by default do not know about text formatting.

Can anybody confirm that this is indeed the case with Advanced Server 7?

We rely heavily on formatting of DNA and protein sequences and the loss of this would be like losing the entire record.

The only solution would then be to selectively change a field's IWP access settings but not the settings when accessed through the client. But, as far as I know, this is not possible. Can anyone confirm this?

The other alternative would be to create separate user IDs for client and web access. And I am not sure my users will understand this.

Make sure you're using the Web palette. Edit | Preferences | Layout | Web palette.

Thanks. I have been using the web palette forever. This is actually one of the first things I set when installing a new copy of FMP. As far as I know this only ensures that the colors you choose are compatible with the web. And indeed, my database looks just as good on the web as it does when viewed from a client.

However, choosing the web pallette does not change the way the web browser handles the text fields.
