Okay I made a FM 6 solution with a custom login file and a data file. Nothing fancy. But I've locked the status bar and forced users to use my buttons for all functions. Most of the ideas and techniques came from this forum. Then I used the web companion to publish on web site. Now only some scripts/buttons work and my custom login doesn't work at all. Need suggestion of where to go now. I want my DB to work the same on the web as it does on my desktop. Is there an easy fix or plug in or do I start from scratch. Also is there any good books/websites that take desktop dbs to the web. Thanks

Instant Web Publishing is great so you can get a project to a web-style front in very little time. Unfortuately, this comes at a price that might make your solution unusable for IWP. Or, at the very least, you'll have to modify it heavily to be compatible with IWP.

The other option is to build a custom web page that "looks" very simular to your project, then use XML/XSL or the like to transfer data to and fro. I'm not knowledgable about such things, but I'm positive many people here could be a better help for this idea.

Another option (although not a free one) is to upgrade to v7 and use it's much improved IWP. You also wouldn't need a custom login file, since the accounts and privileges built into FM7 are much better than previous versions.

The new IWP, security, and relational model were more than enough reason for me to move to v7. (But then I only had one computer left on WinNT, and luckily the instrument control software on it worked under 2000)
