October 19, 200520 yr Is it possible to use IWP so that it can be viewed from a remote site? It works fine over the LAN, but does not appear using a browser from a remote site.
October 20, 200520 yr Mike-> Whatever router/firewall is between your LAN and the WAN (Internet) needs to be told to forward WAN web traffic (usually port 80) to the computer hosting the IWP. Most routers call this port forwarding.
October 20, 200520 yr Author Thanks for replying. How do I tell my router to forward web traffic? I've looked at the Local Area Connection, but find no way of 'forwarding' traffic. Incidentally, the Microsoft firewall on the Local Area Connection is set to except filemaker files.
October 20, 200520 yr Since you have a LAN, there must be a box betweenthe Internet (WAN) and your PC & other computers on the LAN, it's this box that needs to be configured, not your Windows PC. Most routers have a web interface. Most have a default address of 192.168.0.1. Has your router even been configured? If so, you'll need the username/password, otherwise you'll need to read the documentaation for the defaults (change them!). You can find the router's address using this command in Window's Start>Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt : ipconfig /all None of this is simple, so if it doesn't make sense, let us know how you connect to the Internet (cable modem, DSL, etc.) and what router you have.
October 21, 200520 yr Author You know a lot. The router needs to be reconfigured I imagine, as you say. But I've lost the software. In one of my tidying up purges I removed it from the hard disc and I can't find the Broadcom Control Suite CD to reinstall it. Whilst it's possible to download the driver, I'll have to save my pocket money, because the suite is not on their web site to download, just their drivers. So my only recourse is to buy another router with CD. At least now I know where I'm going. Many thanks
