IWP issue, not working

Featured Replies

I seem to have the IWP set up correctly so as I can access the shard database from the web. However I can only access from within my LAN. If I go to another site and try to access the file i get "cannot locate server" message. Also, I set up the port (80) to forward all requests on that port to my private IP. so if I type my public IP into the browser within my LAN it works, I just cant understand why its not working from a remote site. Am I missing something. Is IWP intended for accessing information from anywhere on the web or only within your LAN?

IWP is not the issue, it's your network setup...can you connect to your machine in any other way (file sharing etc.) from remote sites? I'm guessing the answer is no... have you just tried to ping the computer from a remote site?

ok, i think you may have answered my question then. I was under the impression that you could simply put it up there on the web for anyone to access that had your IP and a username/password. Is there a way to do that using FM 8 Server Advanced ?

IWP does work as you describe, but your IP address has to be accessible outside of your LAN.... it doesn't matter whether your using FMP, IWP, or FMSA. (or any other server of any kind)

Just because you can access the internet doesn't mean that your IP address is visible outside... it depends on your router/ISP/etc.
