I have been using FMP 7 for a while now and it has been working good for me up to this point. I am trying to set up my database to be on the web using Instant Web Publishing but it is not working. I am using XP connecting directly to my Qwest DSL modem (my modem has a built-in router) and I arranged to be on a static IP. I read through all the posts I could find and didn't see the right solution as the problems I have seen posted of this nature is mostly by MAC OS users.

From reading the posts existing I think I see the problem but don't know how to fix it. The IP address that I am given by IWP is a LAN address and it doesn't match my static IP address ie. the address I get from IWP is 192.168.0.3:591, my static IP is different than that. This might be occurring because of the built-in router on my DSL box but I don't know how to change that.

When I test it I can pull up the page using Localhost or the IP address given from IWP on my explorer browser on my computer and I can pull it up from another computer on my local network but when I try to pull it up from an outside computer over the net it doesn't work with the IP address given by IWP or when I type my static IP with the 591 port.

I don't know how to either a) convert the IWP address to match my static IP address or b)link the IP address given by IWP to my static if that is what is the problem.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I have spent many hours on this and I am about ready to throw my computer out the window.

What you need to do is configure the router in your modem. It must forward all traffic on port 591 it receives to the LAN IP address of your machine: 192.168.0.3.

If your modem does indeed have a router then it is the modem/router that has the static web IP address, not your computer. And that's the way it should be, otherwise your computer is completely exposed to the internet.

Your router receives the requests you make on port 591 but since it is not set up to forward it, it just drops the traffic.
