xochi Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 What are the bugs in 8.0v2 that bother you the most? Do you have any indication (formal or informal) that they will be fixed? Mine are: Corrupt indexes lead to ghost records Search on unstored calc field is very very slow Sliding/printing of portals doesn't work like it did in FM 6 Any others?
MelJ Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I'd like to see an event based script trigger when either entering or exiting a field. Also it should be "layout" based instead of "Field level" based like all the plugins I've found.
Lee Smith Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Check out [color:blue]zippScript It is a FileMaker 7-native plug-in that enables the triggering of scripts when the contents of a field is changed, and is included with Advance. Lee
Ted S Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I'd like to see an event based script trigger when either entering or exiting a field. Also it should be "layout" based instead of "Field level" based like all the plugins I've found. I'd be VERY surprised to see this in the 8.0v3 release. Maybe in the 9.0 release but I believe these 'between version' releases are generally about fixing bugs.
Cable Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I'd like to see them fix the printing issues that have apparently been a problem for the last few versions.
BFrost Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 There's definitely some wierdness in center and right aligning text and numbers in fields and on buttons. They sometimes disappear or show only the leftmost character(right align) or right aligning when center alignment is specified. Windows & Mac and up through v2 Advanced. I've posted about it before, one posted reply with similar experience. FileMaker hasn't been taking Emails through their online "comment" site. You can call and get bounced around on their call director system. Seems to occur in files converted from .fp5 or .fp7 originated in FMP 7. It's really annoying for formal presentation of data requiring right alignment or centering. Work-arounds are a PITA.
xochi Posted March 16, 2006 Author Posted March 16, 2006 Filemaker releases some advance info about 8.0v3. Is this the first time? http://filemaker.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/filemaker.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5907
LaRetta Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Agreed the jump off-side formatting is a problem. Right before you go back to Browse, Edit > Select All or CTRL-A (smile) to be sure everything is selected, then Arrange > Send to Back. This solves it for me.
BFrost Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 xochi It's definitely the first time I've seen an advance on what changes will be made. It seems to address the fixed margin issues. LaRetta Thanks, I'll give that a try.
D-fendr Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I just read the version history, the bugs and the "soon to be released" fix for the bugs created by the last bug fix. Right now, I'm only praying there's no NEW bugs in the next fix. I've given up on a fix for the change printer problem.
mav Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I'd like to see 'this' fixed . . . Save file as 'PDF' does not embed the fonts correctly. The fonts used must be installed on the target computer running Acrobat Reader.
Triodes Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 When I switch from Browse to Layout and have multiple files open, the focus goes to another file and all open files/windows blink a few times. I have to enter a command to accept all changed records (don't know the english command name) before my portals in other files show the updated info, which I didn't in 6.0
D-fendr Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 I'm having major problems with all versions of 8 on right align and center. Especially for merged text. Extremely frustrating to have to work-around to tabs..
Ender Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 I'm having major problems with all versions of 8 on right align and center. Especially for merged text. Extremely frustrating to have to work-around to tabs.. I don't remember seeing a thread from you about this problem. There are some likely causes.
Mike-LI-NY Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Immediately after I upgraded to 8v2, whenever I performed a search on an unstored calc fields, I've been getting incorrect result s- both when the file is hosted on FMServer and when it is on a local host. I called FileMaker on Feb 10th or something (I've been escalated to the highest priority apparently) and they kept telling me that they'd get me a patch that week - this has been going on for 2 months and my office has fallen behind on so much work and had to create many workarounds and lots of extra paperwork. It's been EXTREMELY frustrating dealing with this company especially after paying X thousands and thousands of dollars to upgrade to this version. They're completely unapologetic and continually string us along with promises of a pending patch, which I still have yet to see... The amount of wasted time, effort and money has been through the roof - there was a 2 week patch wher ethey had me migrating the databases back and forth between different versions where numerous employees were rendered useless. I used to sing the praises of FM, but after this, my respect fo rthem has gone out the window and I'm already investigating other database products that we could use. Completely disappointing... not to mention every time you call them you have to go through 60 prompts and from time to time type in a credit card number! Agh the frustration...
