Graphics bugs with Web Companion

Featured Replies

Hi all:

I'm using webcompanion to publish a fp5 database. It has a number of layouts, each selectable from a menu of buttons (in the filemaker file). Web companion interprets the buttons as links (correctly), but if I choose one, other buttons or graphics disappear as the new layout comes on. If I choose "edit layout", all graphics reappear properly, and I can enter info to the database without a hitch.

Has anyone encountered similar issues? Are there work arounds?

Thanks,

LS

Let me guess... you are using Instant Web Publishing. Instant has big limitations as to what layout elements appear on web pages. only buttons that use simple "go to layout" scripts are displayed, for instance.

Most people on this list have realised the limitations and moved up to custom web publishing.

You mention using the "edit layout" command -- this is in FMP not the web, right? If certain buttons are not appearing on the web, it might be because they run scripts other than simple "go to layout" steps. Nothing you can do about that except go to custom.

And if you go to custom publishing with FMPro 5.0 and try to run your scripts, you will subject your files (db and format) to severe problems since Web Companion is single threaded. You will need to develop a workaround or abandon scripts. You might choose to investigate 5.5's script handling abilities.

SIMPLIFY ...

Thanks for the response.

My workaround is simple, create a single layout that shows all fields for instant web publishing. I realize it's limited, and I suppose I've found its limit. In the mean time, before I get a custom site complete, it gets the job done quickly.
