Browsing changes host view

I've set up Web Companion (Instant version), running off desktop machines (FileMaker Pro 5.0). When browsing a database, the view of the host FM application changes to match the view of the browser. This is obviously a problem to the person working on the host machine! It happens whether PCs or Macs are hosting or browsing the database.

Anyone had any experience with this?

Yeah, that's the way it works frown.gif" border="0

I think you have to decide whether your database is going to serve over the web or be used direct, the general view is that it's very bad to try to do both. I tried for a couple of years to have one or two 'administrators' remotely updating FMP databases that were web serving, any my experience says 'don't'. You'll find, for example, that if a direct user has clicked in a field and left their computer there will be no response to web requests. There's the same effect every time the database goes out of browse mode.

IMO, the real answer is to serve the databases on a dedicated machine and either make input and edit html pages or, if you need scripts and stuff, import data from a copy.

regards, Jeff

The idea behind the way it works is that you would setup a machine to act as the web host, and then that machine ONLY hosts the files to the web and is not actually used as a workstation.

This is partially due to performance and partially due to that fact that ALL web users, as well as the local user share all of the SAME resources, globals, found set, sort order, etc.
