I'm using Filemaker V5.03 with Web Companion 5.6 on a Win2K Professional box. I have Sharing and Passwords set correctly, and have IWP active in the Edit/Preferences/Plug Ins at Port 80. I have used the same setup successfully for several months, until now, and have used this setup for local testing.

I don't know what's happened but recently the IWP doesn't work correctly. I log onto 'localhost', see the list of open databases, and open one. The database opens in the browser, but a number of the links are missing - Create New Record, Delete Record, etc., and the ones that do appear don't work. I get a message that there's an error and nothing happens.

If I publish the databases to my server (Unlimited Server v5) the database behaves correctly. If I use FM 5.5 on my local machine, the database runs correctly.

I've gone so far as to uninstall and reinstall 5.0v3 and made sure that the most recent updater was used and Web Companion version. Your thoughts and suggestions are most welcome!

IMHO -- Win2K Professional box? NT4 is still the best OS for FM.

Problem solved. I found that by typing the IP address of the machine, rather than "localhost", FM's IWP ran correctly. The reason is that typing in the IP address brought up the correct start page (headed: Instant Web Portal), whereas the 'localhost' address did not (headed: Instant Web Publishing Database Homepage).

I'm not sure why this is the case, but it may be related to having installed a trial version of FM 5.5 on the same machine.
