get carriage return when inserting text in field in web companion

I am new to the web companion and am using FM 5.5. On certain fields, when I create a new record and insert text in some fields, the web companion adds a carriage return to the text automatically. Whenever I even try to edit an existing record, it also adds a carriage return. I've compared the fields for when this happens and when it doesn't and I can't find any difference. I've tested this when the database was hosted by a Mac and a Windows 2000 machine. They both do the same thing.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Am I just setting something up wrong?

Please refer to your copy of cdml reference.fp5. Look under Replacement Tags. Read about fmp-field. There is something there about encoding, the second parameter, which you may find useful.

I checked out the cdml reference.fp5 file. Since I am using the FileMaker instant web publishing, I am not sure how to implement suggestions from the file. Do I have to create my own web pages?

Custom Publishing! When you create your own HTML pages, you will gain enormous powers with the same FileMaker.

Instant Publishing is just that, done in an instant. You have no control. FMI has created the ability to do Instant Pub. but with that ability comes a wysiwyg over which you have no real control. It is a great selling tool.

Those of us who do Custom Publishing understand its power.

Good luck to you as you try to overcome the learning curves you are about to encounter.
