October 2, 200124 yr Newbies Hey, gang. This is my first time visiting -- boy, am I glad I found this site! SUMMARY: What are the minimum permissions needed on a served database to allow Web access? (Using custom publishing.) FULL STORY: I created a database to keep track of members in my organization (spamcon.org). Members get a badge that they can post on their Web site. When someone visits the member's site, they can click on the badge to verify the membership. That requires some Web<->FMP interaction. (I.e., "Tom Geller is member #42, registered at the Sponsor level. He has been a member since 1 October 2001.") Here's the problem. The database is *only* Web-accessible if I leave nopassword=full access. I've tried taking away various privileges, but then I get "No records found", no matter what I do. Since I'm not doing Instant Web publishing, I'm safe from crackers mucking with the database via a Web interface. However, anyone with FileMaker Pro could log right into the DB and edit/delete records at will. What are the minimum permissions needed on a served database to allow Web access? What might I be doing wrong? Thanks, --Tom Geller Executive Director, SpamCon Foundation http://www.spamcon.org
October 2, 200124 yr Author Newbies quote: Originally posted by Vaughan: Web Companion requires Browse and Export access just to get out of bed. Yep, I tried it with only Browse and Export access for nopassword. No soap -- Web access still returned, "No Records Found". Other ideas? --Tom
October 2, 200124 yr The database itself must have export permitted when opened. Then Web permission must be set with: All Users -- no password Browse checked
October 4, 200124 yr Author Newbies I figured it out! In short: I'd defined nopassword, but didn't set it to see a layout in the Access Privileges Overview. D'oh! Thanks to all who offered assistance. This is a great forum. --Tom
October 15, 200124 yr Use Web Security databases instead of Access Privileges. Much easier to setup and change. If you do use Web Security, remember to get rid of the <no password> password (unless it's needed for something other than web sharing).
