February 19, 200223 yr I have a related database with a total of four fp5 files. The database should be accessible over the web and also through the network.. only thing is that whenever I set the sharing in the fp5 files to "Multi-user" FileMaker Pro 5 crashes when I re-open the files. If I go back to "single-user" it works fine... The network admin and I still haven't figured out which port to use.. he opened port 591 but FMP still tells us to use a different port... could this be the reason why FMP crashes when using "Multi-user" sharing? Could there be other things causing this - or should I maybe re-install FMP - could that make a difference?! Also - I'm not able to view the default html page.. February 19, 200223 yr You basically have a mess here. There is nothing about multi-user per se that should cause the crash. Try opening the files one at a time in MU mode to see if one is corrupted. I'd recommend serving the files from FileMaker Server, with a machine running FileMaker Pro Unlimited acting as the web host. HTH Old Advance Man

Web users use the port nominated in the 'WebCompanion' Configuration. All the best. Garry Garry, I had strangest experience today with FM Server 5 in my life! One company has server in Main office serving 30 databases and on other location (factory) 6 databases are served locally through standard FM client. Between those two is VPN on 128k line. Everything works beautifully. They are connected to Interned via Proxy/Firewall software, placed at the Main office. We set the security so I can from my IP only connect and work in FileMaker remotely. PROBLEM: I can see the databases opened on remote-remote (factory) client. I cannot see the remote (Main office) server! Nobody knows what to do. We opened 5003 with TCP/IP and UDP. We closed the UDP and left only TCP/IP. Nothing. Yak! Any thoughts? Everything is PC.
February 20, 200223 yr Anatoli, I do some work for a company with a very similar set-up. They have a VPN (Sonicwall) with offices in Sydney and Melbourne connected to the Internet with ADSL. I use a Win2k computer with the Sonicwall client and am able to login to the VPN from Maleny (up in the hills with the hippies ). I am able to see two computers hosting different FM databases. I wonder if a sub-net address problem exists were you are not able to see the second host!!! I will have a bit of a think about it. Speak with you soon. Garry

Garry I like the HiTech hippie combination I will check the subnet. Strange is, that everything see everything else and I see the most remote machine, but not the one in middle
February 20, 200223 yr MultiUser uses port 5003; however this is for FMP clients only. Web users do not need MultiUser enabled. Web users use the port nominated in the 'WebCompanion' Configuration. When does FMP crash? Is it whenever you enable MultiUser then close the Preferences window, or at some other event? All the best. Garry
